Is it possible to add files to a system image?

I made a system image of my computer using the built-in Windows 7 tool. I attached the VHD in Disk Management, added the files that I wanted, and then detached the VHD. Every time I do a restore using a system repair disc with the same system image that I edited, my modifications are nowhere to be found. If I mount it back, the files are really there. This is driving me crazy.

Am I missing something?

By your own admission it is possible, you can see them, but the windows backup program can not see them to add them; Yes, it is possible.

By any chance is the read only box checked, when the dialog box comes up to attach the VHD?



In the meantime I'm going to see if I can have some other members stop by to help.

Hello Anak and thank you for your reply. I don't think that's the issue, because the read only option is unchecked.

If you haven't done this, maybe manually restoring the added files would be an acceptable workaround.
