    Cannot download files, plus Win update problems, and more besides


    My recent clean installation of Win 7 64-bit is giving me a host of problems. I think I've overcome the recurrent message that claimed wrongly that I didn't have an authentic copy (I entered the validation code again). But I can't download any files in the normal way. IE11 just will not open or save them, even with minimal security settings. No message. I'm using MS Security Essentials for AV with standard MS firewall. Win Update has also stopped working. When I try to do a manual update, I get a message saying it is not under execution and suggesting I reboot. And try as I may, using all the re-install workarounds that I can find on the Net, I cannot get Windows Live Mail to function. I always get the message that calendar data is corrupt. What is going on?

    I spoke too soon. I've just had another pop-up tell me this is not an authentic copy of Windows! Yet I bought it from an apparently reputable distributor of software, via download. And the validation code they supplied works. Here's the MGAdiag.exe report

Hello, I seem to be getting a lot of errors in Windows 7. I click on something within Windows like Firewall or to adjust the screen brightness and something pops up indicating that Windows can not find something or other. Or nothing pops up at all and I just just click futilely and nothing happens....
Disk Cleanup claims it can remove about 9.5 GB of old system update files, but upon running it, nothing happens (and I don't free up any space). This may or may not be related, but I ran SFC and it found problems it couldn't fix. I've attached the logs.
