for CMD line why are commands not recognized or missing from OS

For windows 7 pro when using command line there are missing or not recognized as valid commands? like for instance oscdimg is not found why is that? and what other commands are missing where can i find commands so i can have all of them in place and usable:geek:

When you open the CMD window you must be on C:\Windows\system32 as the executable files are on this folder.

That's not always true. That really can't be true for all commands.

Townsbg is correct not all commands are available , osc image is a mounting command there has to be a list out there that has all of the available commands that are available upon first build and ones that are not like osc

When you type a CMS Windows looks in current directory for .Com.Exe .CMS etc it then search for it in the path if at a CMS prompt you type set it tells you the path

Open a command prompt and type PATH [ENTER]. If the program you are running is in any of the listed folders, or if it is in the folder you are in at that moment, all you need to do is type the program name and hit ENTER; Windows will find it.

If it can't find it, then either it isn't in one of the PATH locations, or it is not on your computer.

I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
Commands introduced in 8 or 10 aren't going to work in 7 without installing the associated programs. Those commands all run a program. If the program isn't there the command isn't going to work. Furthermore googling a command and finding Microsoft's article on it should list the Windows version that the command is for.
