Is it possible to clean up the registry?

I noticed while moving around in the registry that there is A LOT of skype files. I removed skype via the remove program tag years ago, is it possible to clean up the registry?

Sounds like you've been running the Custom Clean. CCleaner has a separate section for cleaning the registry, click on Registry in the menu bar on the left.

As long as there has been a "Registry" there have been Registry Cleaners. In their purest form, they look for references to programs that no longer exist, and remove those references. I won't get in to the argument as to which Registry Cleaner is the best, but I've been using one for years. In one example, I uninstalled Office 2007 from my PC years ago, and then ran my Reg. Cleaner and it removed 35 MB of crap that the Uninstaller overlooked. That reduced the size of my Registry, by about 1/3.
    Good Luck, and Happy Holidays!

PS: If you've never run a registry cleaner before, it would be a good idea to back up your OS first.
You'll probably find that many uninstallers will leave junk in the Registry.
