Urgent help: Need data recovery (family photos)

Over hours of stupidity I managed to delete the wrong partition, then create a partition over it. The original partition contained family photos. I further complicated this by reinstalling the OS - W7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I tried Acronis Disk Director 10 partition recovery, but it found nothing.

Anyone know of something that might find and assemble the remaining photo files?

Try system image, Go to date prior to change. Dont have a restore point, try system restore, but this may not work.

I've had some success with Data Recovery Wizard. Especially if you have not written too much to that HD you might have some luck.

Diskinternals Partition Recovery has found the directories and files, but I don't have $139 to shell out to register and recover the files.

It is nice to see that they still exist, along with roughly 14 years of documents, but this is a big problem - if I had the available $ right now, I would gladly pay it, but for a long story, it does not exist anymore. If it comes to it, I will have to shut that computer down for two weeks and hopefully can pay it out of what I make these days as a substitute teacher, but as my wife's position at the firm she used to work for was just cut a few days ago, as was she, it would be a real unfortunate stretch. This is Murphy's Law in action.

Is there a tool known similar to Diskinternals Partition Recovery? Is this "Data Recovery Wizard" similar? I don't know if this is something built into W7 or something else; when I click on the link I just get a new tab with this same thread listed in it.

I would not spend that money since those files might not even be recoverable.

Try the program Kari suggests to see if it confirms what Di$kinternal$ found.

Others may have freeware programs to suggest.

    TestDisk - CGSecurity

I re/partitioned a drive and did a quick format on it forgetting I had some docs on there that I needed, TeskDisk found them and allowed me to copy them elsewhere whilst the drive was in use running another Filesystem!

I believe it can run natively on Windows but I booted from SystemRescueCd which has TestDisk as a tool within.

I am really sorry! The link was missing. I edited the post, link works now. They have a free trial version but I do not know how effective that is. The commercial version is IMO OK.

I know this does not help yut but you have to decice what is important to you and your family. Even if it means you have to give up something equally important, the memories in those photos can be far more valuable than the money you have to invest.

Once again, sorry about that link.

This is what I use when I stupidly delete files that weren't supposed to be...not sure if it'll help you but as it's freeware, it's worth a try.

Recuva ( Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download ) would be another option. But whatever you use, load the recovery program from another computer on a stick or a CD to avoid further writes to your disk.
