Windows 7 is forgetting my Hide Desktop Icons setting

I like to use the Desktop folder to save items temporarily, but I keep a clean desktop background with no icons displayed. This option is accessed by right clicking the desktop and deselecting View>Show Desktop Icons. I've been doing this since I was using Windows Vista. My problem is that now my Windows 7 OS never remembers this setting. Whenever I turn my computer on the icons have reappeared. Additionally, when I go to deselect the option, I have to do it twice for it to take effect. Is this a known bug? It's really annoying, especially when there may be things on the desktop you don't want others to see when you login.

    Welcome to the Forum

Go to search type icons Then go to show common icons. Select the ones you want shown. Hope this works.

Report back, so that others may be helped or to ask for additional assistance.

Hey, thanks for the response. The problem is I'm not worried about choosing what default icons show (My Computer, Networks, Recycle Bin, etc.). I want to hide ALL dekstop icons, meaning any file in the folder "Desktop" does not actually appear on the desktop.

Hello Egypt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

After you set your dekstops icons to be hidden using the tutorial in the post above by Richard, save your theme to see if that may help keep them after a restart or log off and on.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Over the weekend, after I rebooted, my icons were not there. I did not know about the feature to turn them on and off. I rebooted again and they were still gone. I came to Seven Forums and found out about clicking the desktop. My point is that mine did not turn on when I rebooted.

Worked. Thanks for pointing that out to me. As you can imagine searching "show desktop icons" produces a lot of extraneous results.
