What burn speed to use.

For the most part, you shouldn't have any issues burning at the max speed. If you have a quality burner, use quality media, and have software like Nero 7 (I can't stand 8 or 9), that auto-detects the speed from the media, then you are good to go.

The only time I've heard of burning issues related to speeds in the last 8 years or so, are that some older car stereos have some issues playing audio CDs burned at high speeds. The other issue is that some people have reported install issues when burning their TechNet or MSDN .iso files at high speeds. I'd still put my money on the problem being slow hardware or cheap media.

In a fairly recent system, speeds shouldn't be an issue, regardless of what you are burning. I use only Samsung burners in all of my computers, and they don't give me any issues whatsoever.

Not had noen so far with my SH-S223Q and asda disks, but it is my 2nd drive, first one the motor seized solid when doing a full speed burn of an xp iso, boy did that disk stop spinning with some screeching.....

As I had bought it off ebay and they on for about 20 quid at the time i just replaced, i eventually unseized the other one bt its been a bit unreliable since....

So, I'd sooner burn slowly just in case...
