i've heard so many people being concerned about this. why is it surprising to anyone that it would check in with MS to verify itself. truth is as pirates and hackers become better at creating hacks it takes more extreme measures to deter them. sure for the consumer this is unfortunate BUT it shuts down some of the cracks and more people will buy legal copies therefore keeping our software prices down.

i have 1pc and 1 lappy legit win7 and I wont be using ms wat on them ,.I have already activated them once and that should be it , so no phoning home in 90 days to check again. if ms wants to find pirate copies then fine , but do not keep checking on legit users .

You don't know what Windows Update really is then.

just found this on net , so what a waste of time

this is a little tool I put together to remove WAT (Windows Activation Technologies) completely from the OS, whilst still retaining genuine status and receiving all updates (optional aswell). You can also pass the genuine check in things like Windows Defender.
There will be no windows activation section in control panel (thanks to nononsence)
    no slmgr
no nags, no prompts, nothing. WAT gone.

It works after M$ KB971033 update will make your Windows 7 Genuine again! Enjoy!

All measures to counteract piracy are a waste of time because after all it is only code and code is most manipulative.

For as long as you know what you do you (and I don't) then the challenge of cracking things is what makes the crackers tick.

The only way to stop copyright it is by not having software to begin with.

Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. The discussion of methods (cracks) designed to circumvent activation and other intellectual protection technologies is also not allowed.

The purpose of WAT is to help to ensure that you are running a genuine MS OS. By its very nature, there are bound to be some false positives, but these will be corrected in subsequent updates to the database that WAT uses. These updates will enable WAT to detect new methods of activation circumvention that are developed. At the moment, this update is optional (and, before anyone asks, I DO have it installed), but it will eventually become mandatory. Validation checks will then include checking for the presence of WAT on your system, and if not present your system will be flagged as non-genuine.

I have just checked again, I don't have this update listed even as an optional. Does anyone have it for the x64 version?

Tried to rep this post, must 'spread around' first. No BS, nothing but the truth.
