    Read Only?

Since using Vista and all the way through Windows 7 testing Ive found that the read only attribute "appears" to be set in the properties box of almost any folder on the computer.

But I dont think its actual set. Certainly I can save to a folder which shows this set. I just wonder whether this is a bug or its picking up some hidden file somewhere.

    Hi Nick,

If you check the actual message you see there - one of the changes in windows 7 (maybe vista too) is that the read only attribute does not apply to folders, only files

The screen you show indicates that there is at least one file in the folder that you do not have write permissions on, which with the new tighter security in the system folders is not unusual - there are 3 states

    • Ticked - applies to all files in folder
    • Grey - applies to one or more files in folder
    • Clear - applies to no files in folder

Hope this explains things a little
