While I was viewing video footage in Media Player Classic, Windows 7 Pro x64 went BSOD. Then windows would not boot and said in the error that the OS was installed on drive D, while I know that it is installed on C. I tried to boot nine times and ran the Startup Repair each time with no avail. Will I need to reinstall Windows or is their a way to fix this?

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks!

Try doing a System Restore on a date before you had the problem. Let us know what happens.
Thanks,

Hello Hunt and Welcome to SevenForums.

How many physical drives does your computer have.

If more than one, which partitions are on which physical drives?

Hello,

@ bigmck: Yes I tried doing a system restore. It didn't help at all.

@ karlsnooks: My OS is installed on an Intel X25-M SSD (C drive). I also have a 1 TB RAID 0 installed (drive D I think). I also have an external e-sata 2 TB drive. My Windows temp files and virtual memory are located on one of the hard drives, although I cannot remember which one.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Therein lies your problem..Y/./ou probably connected your external after the OS finished installing. Just use your SSD for virtual memory and temp files. The wear factor of SSDs is grossly overexaggerated anyway. A lot of idiots and misinformed people who listened to idiots think that SSDs will wear out prematurely if you leave the default system setup the way it is.. The fact is, if an SSD couldn't run windows for a normal life span, microsoft wouldn't support SSDs.
By the way, the real reason deframentation is disabled when windows 7 is installed to an SSD is because physical location of files on an SSD play absolutely no part in a SSDs seek time, so defragmenting will never be necessary

@ karlsnooks: I already tried disconnecting the HDs. Same problem.

@ madtownidiot: Thanks for the info.

Why is it trying to boot windows off the D drive when it is installed on C? Will I need to reinstall Windows to get going again?

remove your other hdds, do a startup repair, or even a repair install, then reconnect them and make sure the SSD is first on the boot order in bios

I went ahead and reinstalled the OS. Everything seems fine now.

good to hear.. I would recommend making a system image backup right away before installing any additional programs.. it's a heck of a lot faster to restore from an image backup than it is to reinstall windows
