You need to provide administration permision---

Can some one advise please.

This has just started to happen, ( I think ).

If I rename an icon or favicon on my Win 7 Desktop a window appears that states, " You need to provide Administration permision to rename this file", If I click OK, it gets renamed.

Can I rename without this window appearing? it didn't use to.

Did you disable the application experience service? If so, start it up and set to auto (or at least manual), reboot for good measure and try. Sorry if this doesn't fix your problem, but it's worth a shot.

You User Account Control (UAC) is at default, which is fine, except that it will notify you when you or the system need to alter 'protected' components. Essentially, you can lower your UAC security to a level that won't 'nag' all the time. Otherwise, you have to live with it. Most of us do.

Ya, try lowering UAC like Captain Zero is saying.

If not then you could try what I said. To do that, type services.msc in the start menu search box. Hit enter.

I'm guessing that working is even more of a longshot now though since you probably never altered it to begin with. Good luck though.

Uh, to set the service to auto;

Open an Admin CMD prompt.

Start > Run (type into the 'Search' box) and enter cmd (and then hold CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER) after typing 'cmd' into the box.

Then enter;

> services.msc

Then look for 'Application Experience' you'll notice that it's set to Manual (by default). Right-click on it, select Properties and change the Startup Type to AUTO.

Reboot, for good measure, like he said.

to use copy all info into notepad. saveas "UAC_Quite.reg" then save.
Yes use the " " so as to make it a reg file. You also can simply open regedit --> move to the list reference. look to see what your settings are then change if you want.
Tested in Windows 7 7127 Ultimate and working just fine.
