I have a HP Pavillion a1120n, which has a 915GV chipset in it. Aero doesn't work while running windows 7, but is there a hack or an updated driver that will allow aero to run?

Will they ever release a WDDM supported driver?

I read about a class action law suit against Windows, due to their "Vista Capable" stickers, and how most of the features of Vista wern't accessible on computers with those stickers. So it was misleading. The law suit metions how Windows and Intel were working together, so Intel didn't lose any money on their Intel 915 chips that were in most computers during the time of the Vista release.

I guess they'll pull the same stunt with Windows 7 most likely, and once again will recieve many complaints about how Windows 7 doesn't work properly on older systems. My computer is only 4 years old, and I can't use Aero, and my monitor's display won't run at native resolution most likely due to this limitation they have put on older Intel chips.

You would think Windows CEO's and their geeks would get their heads out of their ass, and allow Intel 915 series chips to be WDDM compatible, since they are fully capable of handling AERO and other advanced features.

I doubt it as there aren't any non-aero capable cards left on the market. However, ATI is using W7 as an excuse to drop their 'older' cards. I expect others will do the same

All I can offer is this driver, which was the last driver made for the 915 chipset. It works with W7 but the installer needs to be run in compatibility mode.

You could also give True transparency a try, although it's not an ideal solution.

Thanks so much for that driver download. I just installed it in compatibility mode (using windows vista service pack 2), and after rebooting it now sees my samsung monitor in it's native resolution! Finally!

Aero still doesn't work..but at least my screen works as it should now.

Worked for me also. I have an HP Pavilion s7320n Slimline PC with the Release Candidate Customer Preview of Windows 7 and with that driver I can now run Media Center. Thanks!

I've been researching this issue. Intel refuses to make WDDM drivers for the 9xx, even though early betas of Vista allowed it to run Areo just fine.

So, could someone running Windows 7 with Aero ENABLED please run regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\DWM and take a screenshot or list the entrys and values it displays? This will doubtfully be the complete fix, but it'll help me on my research, and I'll let you GMA 9XX users know!

The 965 has Aero straight out of the box.

Sorry, but you're on a path to nowhere there, believe me. Early versions of vista didn't have hardware accelerated Aero effects, so just about any video card could do it. They changed that in RC iirc, and from then on 915 has been unable to do it because it lacks the specific hardware required to accelerate it.
