I have window xp SP2 on my asus A8jn on two partions C and D. I have my backup data on the D partition. But i decided to install window 7 ultimate x32 on the C, then on a restart i get a "BOOTMGR not found", boot manager corrupt error message. When i restart again it just load the partition with the window 7 straight without without displaying option to select the other partition.

The question is what is wrong with the boot manager, i want to be able to see and load any partion drive. I want to keep my data on the drive with xp.

I will really appreciate any useful information on how to have window xp and window on my system without any issue with booting

Hello dayo4me, welcome to Seven Forums!

Before we make any specific recommendations will you please post a snip/screen-shot of the entire disk management drive map with a full description as to which drive/partition is which, so we can see what you have going on as there may be a fairly simple way to resolve the situation.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a snip of that.

You said you have XP installed on C with D as data drive, then you installed Win7 on C which would have overwritten XP if it was on C.

Please post back the screenshot requested and tell us this time where XP is located if not on C.

I can't get a screen shot at the moment cos have got another problem. I have re-install win xp on the D drive which was what was there before and now is the one that loads when i started the system. I then try to install visual studio on it. The problem now is it that it keeps restarting after welcome screen.

Please what do i need to do to start afresh, back up my data and clean everything.

You can copy your data out of Win7 using the DVD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

If you get XP running with a Repair Install, you can then reinstall Win7 which will autoconfigure the Dual Boot with XP when installed last. Or you can start Win7 up using Startup Repair and then use EasyBCD 2.0 to add XP to Dual Boot Menu.

If you want to start over, follow the steps here to correctly install a Dual Boot with XP and Win7: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html
