Windows SSD Tweaking - this good/bad?

Hi I just installed a dual boot SSD from having cloned an old HDD magnetic drive to SDD and touch wood it has all gone very smoothy and I can really sense that things are working so much faster. Like booting takes half the time.

Anyway, these are some tweaks I made from scouring the web - were these good or bad tweaks?

1) I turned off system protection: control panel/ system/system protection and made sure all drives are off especially C. Did this because you can make system images so system protection is just a giant waste of disk space.

2) Disable SuperFetch: Typed regedit in search, clicked on symbol then went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchPerameters right click EnableSuperfetch hit modify and change to 0 and hit OK.

3) Disabled SuperFetch in services: went to Control Panel selected Administrative Tools\Services double clicked SuperFetch select startup then disabled.

4) While in Services double click Disk Defragmenter select startup type which I also disabled. *** This last one I read that I should make this manual but I thought that that must be wrong so I changed to disabled ***

Thanks!

I never disable Superfetch. Although the SSD is fast (access time usually 0.1ms), the cached programs in RAM that Superfetch keeps can be accessed in nanoseconds which is another order of magnitude faster. Thus I consider disabling Superfetch as counterproductive.

Defrag must be disabled because it makes no sense for the SSD and only produces wear and tear.

I am not sure about system protection. I can see your logic but I never touched it.

I disabled mine to save space on the drive, it cleared up about 8 gigs of space.

Some people disable, some don't. Seems like personal preference.

4) While in Services double click Disk Defragmenter select startup type which I also disabled. *** This last one I read that I should make this manual but I thought that that must be wrong so I changed to disabled ***
Completely disable defrag.

Thanks!

If you haven't already, change your power settings to never shut off your hard drive.

Agree with whs, leave Superfetch on.

As long as your doing regular backups you can turn off system protection, I've sen it recommended on several sites.
