Although not celebrating Thanksgiving, the Black Friday in USA is always a big issue in my native Finland. It's traditionally the day when the Christmas sale begins all over the country, and Finnish media is always covering the day in the USA, as today's news show. Over 6 minutes in 30 minute news, it's a big issue!

I wish they'd run these kind of sale prices in the spring when we US residents get our tax refunds back.....right now I can't afford to take advantage of any of these deals, even though there are several things I'd like to get.

Back home in Finland the tax returns from tax year 2009 arrive next week directly to people's bank accounts. That's why the sale always starts when you Americans have Black Friday; it's the last weekend before returns.

Probably why they do it this way, if people haven't got the money to spend the stores wont lose so much profit because of selling things so cheap.:huh:

Did you mean to type "2009"? You have to wait a whole year before you get your refunds back..............That is a long time.

In Finland, you declare your taxes from last calendar year before end of the February following year. Sometime September / October you get a brief to tell how much more you have to pay, or how much you are getting back. Beginning of December you then either pay more or get the returns.

So yes, I meant 2009.

Similar to over here Kari, your tax returns are for the year up until April 5th and you have until the end of October if sending by post and the end of January if posting online. This is the last year you can send by post it all has to be done online from now on but they don't make it easy, it's not so bad if you are just one person but if you are a partnership the tax office don't have the necessary forms to accept them you have to buy a program to send a partnership tax return.
