I've followed the instructions on changing the logon wallpaper w/out issue (thanks!) but the problem i have is our logo that we use for the logon wallpaper...never was a problem with XP but now with W7 the font color is white...which is nice with the default blue background but not when the majority of the company logo is white. i've already adjusted the shadow to dark, yet it still is not easily readable (we have to remember i'm dealing with users that have a hard time with logging in as it is on XP not to mention older users with bad eyesight).

i've done a search and have come up with nothing for changing the font color...if i've searched incorrectly, i'm sorry, but if you could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it! :D

All the fonts and colors are hardcoded into the UIFiles. If this was for personal reasons, then I would tell you to simply edit it using various methods, but since this is a work enviroment, if MS updates the authui.dll file via windows update, then your back to the same white font colors on all those machines. Now if its a small amount of pc's, then you might be able to get away with it.

that sucks that its hard coded...didn't we learn that mistake back in programming 101 in school? lol

well right now its only 10 pcs...but we are slowly converting all 60+ units to W7...so it looks like i'll have to figure out another picture or spend the time to change the background color of the company logo...

thanks for the reply!

Maybe the GFX team might be able to help. Post your background/logo up and maybe we could tweak it in some way that might make it more legible. (might be an idea to also add a snip with the logon section so we could work around this part) ... just an idea ;)

NP. I know for a fact that MS could code the UIfile to read from the current theme. I know all about general users, they will somehow always find a way to use a color that matches the background and now cant see the logon text. LOL. I guess thats why they hard code it so that no matter what theme color is applied, there is concistancy in all logons.

About modding the file. It hasnt changed since RTM. But still...60+ workstations!

I think you will be safe deploying a modified authui.dll file. But there are too many what if's that it may be a headache down the road.

I may be wrong about this but I dont think that the authui.dll file was ever updated in vista. That may be the case with Win7.

Unless the system is restored via a restore point or the "sfc /scannow" command you should be fine.

You may have trouble with corp security, im sure they dont want to run any modified software just to get a logo wallpaper to look right. :sarc:

PooMan that actually looks pretty darn nice...as well as the User Pic...i don't suppose you could upload that one as well for me?! :D the only caveat to that would be if you could have PBG in there instead of just the P? that's what we go by...if not...i totally understand the old saying "beggars can't be choosy"! :o

I think Stardock.com has logon screens you can select. Once there you can add from your photo's.

actually what i was asking was whether or not the profile pic you just created for me (again thanks!) needs to have the "window" border removed prior to my adding it to the settings on the PC...i'm wanting to avoid from having a double border on the pic...you follow? because i'm assuming that 7 automatically creates that border around any pic you choose...in effect having a double border...
