3 pack of Windows 7 Ultimate OEM

Does anyone know if you buy one of these 3 packs you see on popular computer hardware/software sites.....do you get 3 discs? Would you just get one disc and 3 key #s? I am thinking of doing this but i was just wondering. Thanks to anyone who knows.

I can't find the answer anywhere....sound like maybe just one disc but....??????

You can download the Windows 7 Release Candidate from Microsoft for free. You can burn as many copies of it as you'd like.

As I recall (can't open the site right now) you can install it on 3 systems. And you can go back and get more keys if you need them.

You can install the RC on as many PC's as you like.....there are only 15 different keys this time around so there is no need to go get extras.

As for the Original Post.....Windows 7 isn't for Sale yet....so the question is irrelevant for now.

I don't know if Microsoft are going to offer a Home pack where you get a Licence to install on up to 3 PC's in the one household.

It has only been done so far with Office Student Edition I think....not on an OS.

I haven't used that version but I think it is only One CD / Dvd and one Licence which can be activated onto 3 different PC's.

It would be a good option for Microsoft to offer this...it would make it an easier sell to get people to migrate to Windows 7 than having to buy 3 individual licences.

Once 7 is out oem 3 packs would see a separate product key for each of the 3 separate disks just like any previous version. As for how many systems you can run 7 on?


What's a product key and why do I need one?

A product key is a long sequence of letters and numbers that's used to activate the RC and ensure your copy is genuine. (See Activating Windows: frequently asked questions.)
When you download the RC, you'll be given a product key. (See Installation Instructions.) Be sure to use the product key to activate the RC within 30 days, or you'll start getting persistent reminders to activate. As for the 15 keys when first downloading the 64bit RC here the key seen on the download page refused to work! Go back again and again since an upgrade repair install later required a 3rd key! The same situation came up with the 32bit as well.

As far as I know, ultimate is the only version there is since the others are just ultimate with features turned off. You can got to programs and features and turn off features if you want to experience other versions.

Just a thought....if you were indeed looking to use an OEM 3 pack (I didn't see the OEM part before....must wear my specs more often ) you might be better off considering a Technet Subscription....not that anyone would think of using their Technet downloads or keys in a Live production PC.

You can.....basically you need to modify a file in the ISO to unlock the SKU selection.....search for the 7068 thread....it was mentioned in there as that leak was initially a Professional SKU only and would not activate with the Beta Keys.

Once you have modified the ISO you can select any of the SKU's, but you will not be able to activate it so in 30 days you will have to re-install.

If you use the method Nate suggested you will get the feel of a lower spec system...without the drama of having to re-install or getting the nag screen about activation.

This software is intended for pre-installation on a new personal computer for resale. This OEM System Builder Channel software requires the assembler to provide end user support for the Windows software and cannot be transferred to another computer once it is installed. I believe so...

I purchased a laptop recently from DELL with Vista x64 bit. However the sales team screwed up and gave me 32 bit. When I complained, DELL Support took 2 weeks to deliver my X64 bit DVD from Malaysia to India. The CD and CD KEY were shipped separately and during install, I wasn't prompted for a CD KEY and Vista was activated online.

It goes to show, the DVD was custome made for DELL along with the KEY injected.

In fact, I have a friend who has already pre-ordered his Win 7 copy for USD 20.00. He's was able to get it cheap as he has a friend working in MS and he is allowed 3 copies on discount.
