Password protected sharing on, but still share?

I want password protected sharing on because I like to log into my desktop computer and be able to access files as if I'm there. However I want to share one folder on that computer so that people who don't have username/password can still log in and share that one folder.

Is this possible? My understanding is if password protected sharing is on, then they need login credentials. If it is off, than I can't login into my account on that computer and share the files.

in the security tab: Add or Modify the "Everyone" group: With Modify or Read/Write permissions.
Share the folder with the same permissions as the "Security" tab

Thanks brady. I did that.

But it still asks for credentials (username/pw) when I click on the computer in the network folder. Is there direct link I can create or something? Currently I'm going to my computer, than network, and clicking on the computer name. This is where I'm getting the required log in information prompt.

Is there another place to see shared folder in windows 7?

My understanding is that this is the function of the Public Folders.

If you don't want to be asked, you can create an identical user/password on the client machine. Windows will pass your user/pass information to the host machine, which will be identical and you won't be asked for credentials.

When I click on the user name that is when it asks for username/password. Is there of putting direct address like in the old windows explorer in xp? There was also place in my shared places where you can see shared folders without having to click on the computer name.

This is way around however that person would still have access to my computer. I could restrict that account into limited and they wouldn't be able to see my personal files but I rather not have to create this account since I don't want that person having access to my computer at all.

If you have password protected enabled it means for the whole enchilada. You can't have public folders not asked for credentials. The only way to get around that is to create a limited account.
