open laptop display and something funny happens

ok here's the problem....when my laptop is either in sleep mode and the lid is closed or up and running and the lid is closed i can open the lid(lift the display back) and i hear the sound of a usb device being plugged in then about 3 seconds later the sound of when a usb device is unplugged and a "USB Device Not Recognized" message in the lower right side of my screen, along with a little usb picture, if i click on it it shows me the usb ports and what not, and then goes away if i hit close

the question is how do i stop my computer from thinking that my laptop is a USB Device? much thanks ahead of time

nothing, just simply open my laptop, i am not pushing any buttons or doing anything except opening the "Lid" of the laptop

ok after stumbling upon another problem i think i have figured out that the problem stated in this thread is part of a webcam problem...............i have searched and searched all over this forum and toshiba's website and everything that i have tried nothing has worked........i install the camera assistant software and whats supposed to be the driver's for my Chicony built in webcam (part of the display bezel) but my webcam still doesnt work.....starting to get frustrated....if i try to open the camera assistant software an Error message pops up stating that "Webcam is either disabled or has failed. Please check your webcam settings" but i cant find settings anywhere, and its not coming up in the device manager, even if i "unhide" everything in the device manager, it still isnt visible, please help deploying soon and need webcam for video chatting with loved ones!!!

ok i seem to have gotten somewhere with my searching, i remember reading that if the monitor is half closed then the webcam will show up under the device manager, well it sure does, but it still says no drivers installed, and how do i get it to show up when the monitor is fully upright where i can actually see everything without having to tilt the entire laptop back?

ok sorry for the multiple posts but i just keep finding new stuff every two seconds, haha. the camera works perfectly fine when the laptop "lid" is half closed, but when the lid is lifted(with the camera still running and the blue light on thats next to the lense) it freezes and goes to no preview on the camera picture screen..........................so the question is why does the camera "unplug itself" when the laptop lid is opened fully? help is much appreciated

I'm not sure it is the driver just read your last post about the lid. This might be a newer driver though. Dated 11-1-2010

i've installed that same download several times, with no success.....man this is getting really frustrating

im tryin it one more time just for good measure, would it be beneficial to do it with the lid half closed when the webcam works or with the lid fully opend and the webcam in its "non-operable" state?

After reading your post #8 it sounds like you have a loose connection. Opening the lid is causing something to disconnect an electrical connection.

But it is weird the lid is causing the USB- or is sleep mode causing the USB problem.
Very strange.
Sorry I thought maybe you just needed the right driver but it sounds like your driver is working along with the camera.
Loose wiring connection? The plug on the camera end or the motherboard or a pinched wire.

I have no idea how you would find out on a laptop.

Wide open like your using it but it probably is a waste since the camera works- see above post.

but wouldnt it be more intermittent? i mean i can put the display in the exact same position everytime and it works properly, another person in another thread suggested wiring as well, but it doesnt seem very logical with how consistant it is

Sounds like there is no slack on one end or the other or something pinched in the hinge area.
Open it wire pulls -close part way wire touches or unpinched.

Years of electronics work- not on laptops- mostly two way radios. I'm trying to make a logical progression of possibilities.

Almost as easy as diagnosing "My car won't start" over the phone. LOL

gotcha, i understand, im opening it up right now...you'd think i could figure this out if it was wiring, im an aircraft avionics technician(4 years and counting).....working on old c-130h's has you chasing wires every where, haha...but ive got it open and i cant see anything in the screen/hinge area, but i can't see right where it turns and goes inside the laptop....i dont really wanna take apart the entire keyboard and everything, dont wanna risk breaking anything......i might just have to suck it up and buy an external usb webcam.......o well

and it also seems that it is no longer working at all, even when the lid is tilted to the "half open" position, i am no longer getting the usb plug-in/un-plug noises..........whatever was messed up seems to be completely broken/chaffed..........damn

As you stated an external web cam is probably the best way to go.

USB is many times the plug in for the internal camera.
It plugs straight to the mother board so it shows USB connected/disconnected when it cuts in and out.
Just like yours is doing.

Best not to damage something else and get an external camera.
