Why do I have to remove memory to install Windows 7

Good morning and a happy new year to you all.

I`m not sure if this is the correct section to ask this but here goes.

Whenever i re-install windows 7 on my PC i always have to remove 2GB of memory of the 4GB to complete the install. I have an asus P5KC mobo 4GB OCZ.

If anyone could help i would be most grateful

That is not something that is just on your PC. That is just one of those things that makes Windows 7 install better. I can't tell you why.

That is not something that is just on your PC. That is just one of those things that makes Windows 7 install better. I can't tell you why.

Oh rite! Very strange. It`s just a pain in the backside cos my PC`s at the bottom of the rack with other stuff stack on top, It`s now that time to re-install again and i`m not looking forward to disconecting everything to get into the PC case

what happens if you leave it in?

HAHAHA Thanks for pointing this out to me, Some how i missed that setting, Should all be fine now

I get an error notice pop up and Its says something along the lines of, Setup was unable to complete the installation please try again.

That was also a known issue with Vista and certain (almost always Intel based) chipsets and 4 GB or ram. Some of the posts here,

can explain it better than I can. Looks like it is still happening with 7 and probably the same chipsets that had the problem with Vista.

Why not make an image backup of your drive once you get everything reinstalled, then when you feel a need to reinstall, just restore the image. No need to remove ram and in 20-30 minutes you are up and running exactly as you were when the image was created.

All it takes is an external hard drive and use of Win 7 backup software.

I've not had that problem on my current machine. All 4 OSes were installed, one after the other, with the configuration shown in my specs (with the exception of the USB devices, as these were unplugged - not the keyboard and mouse, I hasten to add). It could well be a chipset issue.
