Custom side and history in Open and Save Dialogs

Hello guys. WinXP has a great app named XFilesDialog, it allows us to set custom size to GetOpenFileDialog and GetOpenFileDialog, and added custom buttons so that we could add favorities and have history link to latest folders and files.

But unfortunately the developer had been very lazy last years and takes more than 1 year to release 1 update with some bugfixes.

Is there any alternative, fully developed for XP64 and 7 Win64, with the same features?

I was just about to make a thread about the same thing.

I have not found any way though. Yet.

Ideally I would want to change the "Library" button to something else, as I never use it. Spesifically in this type of save/open dialoge:

Nope, I don't like these new features from Vista and 7, I like it simple and I'd like to remove that left panel, it only wastes valuable space.

What I want is the dialog to remember last folder, have favorities and history, and be bigger.

You can see the original features at XFilesDialog - improve your file dialogs!

The link you posted for XFilesDialog above says that it works in Windows 7 and has 64-bit support, so you should be able to use it.

the support is limited, it doesn't have all features that XP version has

at least he said that, XP64 and 7 support isn't complete yet

and also, as I said, author is rarely updating the software, so if any bug is found it'll take years to be fixed

Thanks Mile! FileBox is very nice, I only miss recent files and app specific config.

Click on the clock. Recent files are stored there;

You can do quite a lot with the configuration file, you need to play around with it to get it as you want it.

I now use open/save dialogs like this;

Expanding the box gives you this;

Very convenient, and no nonsense, You can also hide the navigation pane if you wish.

Regards....Mike Connor
