Alright guys, here's my problem.

My laptop was running wingows 7 and then crashed. It was getting slower and slower, then crashed during a virus scan in safe mode. After that, it wouldn't boot up windows. It said something like disk error, press ctrl alt delete to restart. Safe mode doesn't work either. So now I'm trying to reinstall windows 7, and the installation fails when at expanding files. It says the files are corrupted and can't be installed. I've tried 3 diff windows 7 cds. It gives errors at different points during the expanding every time. Now its just hanging at expanding windows files (0%). Its been here for 20 mins so far. Please help!

Hi and welcome.
That is a fairly new Laptop.

With what you have done and said it sould like your HD went bad and failed.
I would try to find a DOS run HD tester that could run from your CD/DVD drive to check format. What brand of HD? Many manuf. have a special utility disk to check and format HD.

Next step if it is a trashed HD is to buy a new one. $50 - $60 for a 2.5" laptop drive.

Hope this helps a little.

Have you contacted where you purchased it from about a warranty or Toshiba

I would call Toshiba first and ask them.
I would just tell them that the HD was making a lot of noise then stopped working. (that is if it is under warranty)

To replace a HD on most laptops is easy. Read your guide first.
Many have seperate latched door on the underside for removal and replacement.
Sorry that allI can tell you. I will do some more research on the Toshiba site.

Have you checked to see if your BIOS has any built in utility to check HD?

Hey another strange thing is that using the windows 7 dvd I can get to system recovery options. Then I can click load drivers. When I do that it shows my my computer and all the drives. These are...

Local disk C: (221gb free of 222gb) tried to format it
Local disk D: with absolutely no info and kinda freezes when I try to open or eject or format it
Boot X: 29.1mb free of 35.1mb

Then for devices with removable storage
Cd E: with the windows 7 cd
And

Removable Disk F: no info with it.

What the heck is the d: and the f:??

And if my hdd is busted, why am I able to see all the diff drives?

It's not certain your HD is at fault. It could be an infection or other corruption.

Since you've already found yourself into the Load Drivers Mini-Explorer, copy out your files to external or DVD now from there: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

Now boot into DVD Repair console, click through to Startup Repair to run up to 3 separate times to see if it can find an installation, and then make the necessary repairs.

If Win7 won't start, burn the HD maker's diag/repair CD scan, boot it to run Extended scan: HD Diagnostic, followed by http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html run from DVD Repair Tools Command Line.

Once the HD is cleared, run a free bootable AV scan to see if it finds and can clean up infection enough to repair Win7: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List

If you are within a year of purchase, you have full warranty and tech support from Toshiba to help you with all of this. If not, you can attempt to run your Recovery Partition following these steps:

Using Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from the recovery partition
In case of a hard disk drive failure, you may be able to restore the drive to the factory default state using the on-disk Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility (in a special partition on the hard disk drive).
You can select restoring the entire hard disk drive to the factory default state, or restoring only the C: drive -- without affecting other partitions (for example, a D: drive) -- or changing the size allocated to your C: drive, and then restore it.

To recover your hard disk drive from a system failure using the utilities stored on your computers HDD, follow these steps:
  1. If the computer is running, shut it down -- by clicking Start, Shut Down, and again Shut Down.
  2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard and then press the computers power switch. When the computer turns on, the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting three options:

Restore Original Factory Image (Recommended)
CAUTION:

Restoring a hard disk drive to its factory default state deletes all partitions on the hard disk drive and all data stored on those partitions. All of your files and information will be lost! Be sure to back up all important files first.
  1. Press 1 to restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all data will be overwritten and lost during the restore process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
  2. Click Yes to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating the HDD has been restored.
  3. Press any key to restart the computer.
Restore Partition C: of HDD without changing current partition size
CAUTION:
Restoring the C: drive to its factory default state formats your drive. Your information on the drive will be overwritten, and lost. Be sure to back up all important files first. If you have created other partitions (for example, a D: drive) those partitions and any information on them will not be affected and will remain intact.
To restore only the C: drive:
  1. Press 2 to restore only the "C:" drive (the letter C is traditionally used to designate the first volume on the hard disk drive) on your computer. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all information on the drive will be lost during the recovery process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
  2. Click Yes to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating that the HDD has been restored.
  3. Press any key to restart the computer.
Restore Image to C: Partition with user specified size
CAUTION:
Resizing and restoring your C: drive to its factory default state formats all partitions on the HDD (for example, if you created a D: drive, it will be deleted during the recovery process) your information will be overwritten, and lost. Be sure to back up all important files first.
To resize and restore your C: drive:
  1. Press 3 at the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all partitions will be reformatted and all information will be lost during the recovery process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
  2. Click "Yes" to begin the recovery and to specify the size of the C: drive.
    • Press the Left/Right Arrow keys to increase/decrease the C: drive size by 1 GB increments.
    • Press the Up/Down Arrow keys to increase/decrease the C: drive size by 5 GB increments.

      NOTE:
The size of the C: drive will be displayed on the progress bar as you make your selections.
  3. Click "Enter" to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating that the HDD has been restored.
  4. Press any key to restart the computer.
If Recovery partition will not run, you can order Recovery Disks or locate a Win7 installer for your version to clean reinstall using the Product Key on COA sticker following these steps to get a purrfect reinstall: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

Hello mavsynchroid, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's another option, if you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

How to Activate Windows 7 by Phone

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all Versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create

Though if there's nothing on the PC you need to save, I'd do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first.

hi,
i have a similar problem a couple days back i restarted my computer and i got a run32.dll error something to do with AVG then my laptop would crash. i tried going to safe mode to uninstall AVG hoping that, that would solve the problem, but it only made it worse when i restarted i got the welcome screen then a black screen then my laptop would restart.
i tried pressing f8 and try a system restore but an error popped up saying a file was missing or the restore point was deleted during the restore. Cant reinstall windows 7 because i can only go into safe mode!!

Some help would be much appreciated thx.

No one here recommends AVG since it became a bloated mess some years back. Use free Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast 6 for best performance.

Try booting into Safe Mode with Neworking to install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

Boot into System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to see if it finds an installation to repair, then what it reports.

Startup Repair should automate System Restore, but if it fails try running it manually from the Recovery Options list.

Next open a Recovery Options Command Prompt to run SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If all fails, you can copy out your files using this method: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run Full Factory Recovery from partition or disks if you have/made them, or use a Win7 installer to clean reinstall with Product Key on COA sticker following these steps to get a perfect OEM clean reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

After 5 years why is it that windows 7 is still getting stuck and then fails to install altogether while expanding windows files? There are no issued messages, no error codes not even a suggestion of what went wrong other than "Install Windows : Windows cannot install required files. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error Code 0x80070570. Any changes that were made to your computer during the installation process will not be saved." There are No log files saved. It just rolls over and falls on its back and dies. How are users supposed to know what to do? It seems as though ram disk space was under allocated. As can be seen on many postings when users temporarily remove ram the install will proceed. Perhaps removing ram is causing the ram disc allocation to be expanded. During the install users have no control over what file are available in the iso downloads from mstf.digitalrivercontent.net. Can someone at Microsoft please fix the problem with the iso installers Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit: http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso
