Minefield Nightly build crashes

An interesting side note when Minefield crashes with "methodjit.content" set to "true": the notification area of my taskbar is wiped out - gone. I'll put up a screenshot in a moment.

EDIT: Unfortunately, it's not reliably repeatable. Next time it happens though, I'll present it.

Everytime i start it crashes..
Normal mozzilla works right.

Read through this thread and you'll discover the work-around necessary to run Minefield.

In a nut-shell, start Minefield in safe mode, open about:config and set the entry "javascript.options.methodjit.content" to "False" and you'll be good to go.

Yep. Entry settings in about:config are attached to a profile. If you update, or even uninstall and reinstall, without changing or deleting profiles, the settings carry over.

Thank you, that solved the crashing problem.

The nightly x64 "firefox-4.0b7pre" for 10-2-2010 appears to be unstable. After allowing the upgrade it now crashes with the following error:

This seems to me to be a lesson in "don't upgrade" go and download each nightly build so as to be able to revert.

To revert: Index of /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly
Find the x64 build in the "2010-MM-DD-mozilla-central" Directory

I was having the same problem, this is what worked for me.

go into about:config (start minefield in safe mode if necc.)

change these lines to false

javascript.options.methodjit.content
javascript.options.methodjit.chrome

Restart minefield in normal mode and all should be ok

This is been pissing me off to no end since I first discovered the Minefield 64bit builds a couple of weeks ago.

You can also go with the latest Trace Monkey builds or have a look here. No need to edit about:config.

The nightly x64 has had the bug fix merged. Y'all can return your "javascript.options.mothodjit" about:config entries to default (I set both to true).

EDIT: After some testing, I recommend keeping both entries to their default settings which would be:
"javascript.options.methodjit.content" = true
"javascript.options.methodjit.chrome" = false

The latter setting doesn't crash FF x64 if set to "true," but there are a few quirks when it is.

think this thing will ever actually materialize into the real world?

Last time I tried it had major bugs with flash.
Since the 64 bit build wouldn't work for everything "especially my addons" I had to switch to 32 bit at which time flash would want to reinstall since installing the 64 bit version seemed to ruin flash for the 32bit version of FF.
If you reinstall for 32bit... then it trashes it for 64 bit?

Seems a few tweaks and running 32bit FF with cache in ram makes it plenty fast.

Would love to do the same for 64 bit though!

Hi, windstrings!

I keep both versions on my computer and run each interchangeably with no problems. The 32 bit Flash plug-in does not interfere with the 64 bit Flash "Square" plug-in at all, in my case. I even use the Active X Flash versions for 32 bit and 64 bit IE9 - no issues.

Almost all of my extensions work with the x64 version of FF and, those that didn't, I found development builds for them that do work.
