Relatively minor problems - but terribly irritating

Hi guys,
I hope someone can help me fix these 2 little pet peeves:

first - very often when I go to type, whether an internet program or something on my hard drive, if the mouse/cursor is moved the program disappears, I'll look up and see my desktop and when I bring the program back nothing I've typed to that point is there!! This "disappearance act" is really tedious, and almost gets me in a bad mood!!

second - is the seemingly inability to disable the touch pad in favor of a mouse. I use the fn/F3 key to toggle the touchpad off but it only works per program and I always forget if I go from typing say in a forum template and then moving to a word document it has to be redone. I've lost bunches of work that way

Any solutions? Thanks.

I assume you're using a laptop, right? Not sure about the first problem, but as far as I know the way you disable the touchpad varies by manufacturer. I was loaned a Toshiba for a while with the very annoying habit of not having any way to turn off the touchpad at all. I was constantly brushing my finges over it as I typed and screwing things up. Very irritating, especially since I hate touchpads. What model and make is your laptop? There aught to be instructions for turning the %$#@ thing off and keeping it off.

Shalom Andacar ,
Yes, it's a laptop. It's an MSi and I really like it except for the 2 pet peeves.
I've used HP, Toshiba, and Vaio laptops and all those had ways to disable the touchpad, but this one, only the toggle. I was hoping someone had discovered a "back door" to it?
Thanks to responding so quickly. A "sorry, can't help" response is better than no response, for me anyway :)

Welcome to Seven Forums skccab. The first problem is hard to say. Unless you are hitting a hotkey combo (Ctrl + some other key) that closes the open window, and assuming you aren't just moving the cursor over the hide desktop in the lower right.

As for the second issue, many use the Touch Freeze program that disables the touchpad when you are typing:

touchfreeze - Project Hosting on Google Code

Maybe My Computer -> right click + Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Touchpad / Human interface (disable) ?

With my Toshiba as one plugs in a mouse the OS disables the touchpad automatically...

Thank you A Guy
I'll check and see if there is a touh freeze program.
In the first scenario, the program doesn't really go away, it's like it becomes invisible or see-thru. It usually happens when --- as an example, I begin with putting the cursor to type thank you a guy, but the mouse is left in the way of my arms, so I push it to the side (or even pick it up and place it somewhere out of the way) when my attention goes back to this note to you the whole thing has disappeared!!! It's still there, just can't be seen. I wiggle/move the mouse again it reappears. This is exceedingly irritating. And it's only the programs that disappear, not the desktop (that is I don't think it has anything to do with display/power options). But it makes me feel like an idiot, that I keep doing this to myself rather than overcoming it. Don't know if that makes sense to anyone but there you are....

I'll check out the touch freeze again, Thanks everyone.

I have the same problem...when I move my mouse I loose the page is lost
you are probably right handed and when you push the mouse away mouse pointer rests on the little square at the bottom right of the screen which is the way to "show desktop"
hope this helps :)

Thanks!!! That's often where my pointer ends up (it happens other places too, but may be pointing at the desktop may do it also??? my pages don't completely cover the lcd screen..) and that's exactly what it looks like, a thin white outline of the page that had once been there and then the desktop.....I'll make a concerted effort to keep the cursor on the existing page from now on, bet that'll help!!! Thanks again.

Do you have this enabled?

Switch Windows by Hovering the Mouse Over a Window in Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek

If so, that could be part of the problem, but doesn't explain the white outline of the window. The white outlines of windows and the desktop being displayed is what happens when you hover your mouse over the bottom right of the screen where the desktop preview button is. Perhaps your mouse just freaks out once in a while and dives to the bottom right of the screen, enabling this desktop preview without your specific want to do so. This can often happen with an optical mouse if it's not on a consistent-patterned surface.
