Raising the BCLK also raises the frequency of everything else…USB, SATA, PCIe - so that could be your trouble.

After some more tweaks I was able to run 5GHz for 30 min in ADIA64 Stress test but I was not liking the temps I was reaching. 91C peak kinda scared me so I stopped. This is the first Intel machine I’ve had since the original Pentium so I’m unfamiliar with what is safe and what is not. Perhaps someone can comment on that. Don’t want to jack your thread so I’m going to create a new one with my settings.

Your good there. And yeah, rasing the PCI frequency can has drastic results. Try to keep them at 100MHz.

Does the BIOS not have a setting to manually set/lock the PCI speed?

I forgot to mention that I also updated the BIOS to 1204 which is the latest on the Asus site.

I think I have 1204, but I downloaded it and will double check.
Turns out I have 1503 the beta BIOS.

1.5 is max recommended, but if you have good cooling (i.e, NOT aircooled), then you can push a little more.

This was about the highest I could get it. It seemed to be stable at 4.6 with almost 1.5V, but that was way higher than I wanted, so I turned it back down. Even with 1.5V the chip still stayed cool though.


Anything higher than that, and Windows BSoDs before reaching the login screen.

Thats why I dropped it back down to 1.35 volts, my rig is nice and water cooled

I'd say that 4500 counts as close in this case.

He has a i7-2600K. It makes life a lot easier over a i5-2500K. Also chip bin matters - looks like he got one that can do a lot on low voltages. Lucky @ss

I was reading a post where this one guy got a i7-950 chip that could do 4.2gig on 1.2volts. I can't even get mine to do 3.8 on that (not stable) :shock:

Just one of those things. I've seen other Q9550s running at 3.8GHz on a lower voltage than mine. Annoying, I know :huh:
