Slow performance of "built in" games

Hi all,

I've got what I think is a really odd problem and I'm looking for some guidance in finding the root cause.

Whenever I play any of the built in games (mine sweeper, free cell, spider solitaire) I get really slow performance in the game. The graphics are sluggish and the game is slow to respond to input (probably a graphical delay if I had to guess.)

I have a pretty powerful system so I'm really confused.

Here are my specs:
Core i5 760
Biostar T5XE MoBo
2x2GB Mushkin PC3-10700 RAM
GeForce GTX 460

Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem--on a system more powerful than yours.

What is your Windows Experience Index score for graphics?? Is it 1.0, by any chance?

Look in device manager under "display adapters". What do you see?

I saw "Standard VGA".

My slow video response disappeared when I installed "Intel HD Graphics", and that is what I now see in Device Manager. My graphics score moved up to 5.5.

So, you should check your video drivers and make sure you actually have and are using the right one for that GeForce card.

Unfortunately, this is not my problem. I have 6.6 for both graphics "experiences."

I also see my adapter installed as an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

Try running dxdiag and chech video tab. Maybe your 3D acceleration or something is not enabled.

csenger41,

Thanks for the idea, but it shows 3D enabled.

Along the lines of problems with 3D when at the desktop. The "Windows + TAB" key window switching is very smooth and I think that is more demanding than dealing cards or the minesweeper animation.

Now I tried them, too and I have to say that for example Minesweeper animations are quiet slow for me, too.
I think this is a built-in bug for the built-in games.
Maybe, you should try installing the Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Hope it helps. Anyway, disable animations.

Will give SP1 a try.

I'm actually not too concerned about the slowness, I was just worried that it might be a symptom of a bigger problem.

You know, this is a Windows thing. If you would like to use a OS without these 'funny' things, I suggest Linux... ;)
