computer can't connect with canon pixma ip8500 printer

there are no documents in the queue list.

I can remove the device icon ... but not the driver package. When I try it says that it is in use ... even when the printer is unplugged.

When I plug the printer in it is picked up this faulty driver ... even when I reinstall v2.80 and the add on module.

I need to delete the faulty driver package. I've found the folder on the computer where it lives ... maybe I should manually delete each canon component in that folder ... or will that cause more problems?

I had no problems installing the printer onto my partner's computer ... windows 7 bit 32. Worked within a few seconds!!!!

This is so frustrating!

Yeah, guess try it manually to delete in folder you found, i beleive is winsxs or spool.

You might need to "Take Ownership" of the folder if..:

Managed to delete the driver and reinstall everything ... but problem persists!!

Two objects are in the spooler which seem to be problematic ... FP00000 Shockwave flash object (.SPL) 64kb ... and FP00000.SHD SHD file 5kb.

Not sure if they should be there ... and if not why they are there ... and keep coming back after being deleted.

Thanks for the article ... it was informative but doesn't say how to fix the problem. Why is it that when I try to print ... the .spl and .shd files appear in the printer spool ... and then the printer hangs. I can't print anything.

At this point I'm thinking there might be some corrupt registry values that are preventing communication between your computer and printer. Some folks might disagree with me but I think I'd take a two step approach and try to edit the registry to delete all references to canon and pixma. I'd try using CCleaner first. It will let you make a backup of the registry as it is right now in case something is deleted that turns out to be vital for your computer.

CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

After running CCleaner at least twice (or until nothing else is found) I'd do a manual editing of the registry using regedit. I'd do a general search for pixma and delete any reference that might not have been cleaned by CCleaner. Again, you could make another backup of the registry using CCleaner before doing the manual regedit. And I'd recommend backing up any important files, etc or even doing a system image if possible.

Hi

I've the ccleaner and manually removed all reference to pixma in the registry.

Now I am trying to reinstall the printer.

I booted up the computer and then plugged in the printer usb. The computer couldn't identify the device.

I then ran my utilities v2.8.0 and the ad on module ... from the canon website.

I turned my computer off and then rebooted. I then plugged in the printer usb.

The computer still couldn't identify the device so I opened 'canon my printer' and clicked on diagnose and repair printer. It tells me that the printer drive required for the printer is not detected.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

Cheers

Thane

Hi

this is the response I received from Canon. I've been able to successfully install the printer now ... but my original problem remains ... I can't print anything. I can't even check the printer status without it hanging.

I've written back to canon to see if they can come up with a solution.

Cheers

Thank you for writing to Canon USA product support. We value you as a
Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We
sincerely regret any difficulty setting up your printer with Windows 7.

The MyPrinter and Add-on Module available for download from Canon are
not drivers, the Windows 7 printer driver for your iP8500 printer is
provided by Microsoft as part of Windows 7 and Windows Update and
includes all the necessary files.

To install your iP8500 printer, connect the printer directly to the
computer, and then power the printer on. Windows 7 should detect the
printer, and the driver should be installed automatically as long as
there is an Internet connection.

If you experience an issue with the printer being detected, you may try
disconnecting the USB cable, then the power cord from the printer and
shutting down your computer for 30 seconds. Restart the computer to the
Desktop, connect the printer cable and power on the printer to let
Windows detect and install the printer.

Please note, you can check the Devices and Printers window to see if the
printer driver is installed. Open Printers by clicking the Start
button, clicking Devices and Printers.

We do sincerely hope this information is helpful to you regarding your
iP8500 printer. If you need further assistance, please respond back at
your earliest convenience and describe any issues that occur, and what
is listed under Devices and Printers.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

So, when you delete those .spl & .shd queuing in the Spool folder, does it work?

Hi

I am not having much joy with getting the printer to work properly.

I have uninstalled the device driver (in device manager and devices & printers), I have uninstalled all programs ... I have even purged my registry of everything remotely related to canon and pixma printers.

I have plugged in the usb for the printer and powered it up. I have let it download the most up to date driver. Computer says all looking good all hooked up ... ready to go.

I try to print and the print job hangs. In the printer spool are two files .shd and .spl (invariably 64 kb and 0kb) ... these seem to be causing a block with the printing.

I go to the troubleshooter. It looks into the problem and prints the document that I've been unsucessfully trying to print ... and tells me that there was a document in the queue and now I can print.

I try to print again and the whole thing happens all over again.

I have installed the add on module (which apparently is just to improve colour) and other software (My printer v2.80etc). None of it helps me print.

I have uninstalled the printer driver and associated files at least 20 times ... and reinstalled. The printer just won't work.

I have contacted canon. They were very helpful but their only advice was uninstall everything and reinstall it. I've done that ... it doesn't fix the problem.

Is there anyone out there who has any idea how to fix this problem? If so it would be great to hear from you.

The most annoying thing is that I connected the printer to my partner's computer windows 7 32 bit in a few seconds ... I've spent hours and hours trying to connect the printer to my windows 7 64 bit without success.

Cheers

Thane

Hi

something interesting. when I plugged the usb without internet ... the driver still installed. this must mean that despite my efforts it must be lurking on the computer somewhere. I've uninstalled it from device manager ... and the icon in devices and printers and the driver from there too ... and also any programs in programs and features.

I can't see it anywhere else but it must be there. do you have any idea how I can track it down?

cheers

You can track it there:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\drivers\x64\PCC

Try to install the TAKE OWNERSHIP tip if it won't delete.

Otherwise when you show hidden folder, remember that there's also a folder in C:\Program Data\Canon...

Hi

Thanks for your tips. I deleted everything. Went through the registry and cleared it of any reference to pixma/canon. Also deleted that hidden canon file in program data. The computer couldn't identify the device when I plugged it in.

Turned the computer off. Unplugged the the usb cable. I rebooted the computer, turned on the internet, plugged in the usb cable, powered on the printer. I allowed the driver to download.

Tried to print ... same problem. Same old message in devices and printers ... needs trouble shooting. I troubleshoot and it spits out the page I wanted to print telling me that it was the problem (document in queue) ... and that now I can print the page. I print ... and the same problem happens all over again.

Obviously there is a bug in the system ... it doesn't work. I'm prepared to admit failure.

Ah well ...

Thanks for all your help ... and patience.

Maybe leave it alone for a while, at least it prints on the other computer.:)

Time might rinse those defect drivers and some of your troubleshoots acts will either.
