Hi,
My old windows xp pro service pack 3 packed up the other week. It will not boot, it only shows a blue screen and then restarts. I took a video and advanced it frame-by-frame, and it says somthing about a virus. It does have a virus because when I plugged my old USB into my new computer (Running windows 7), It alerted me that it had two trojans. It said they were somthing like Malagent and Arahost.A. Help! I really miss Mr.Computer......!

Please give me rep.

Boot in safe mode with networking and run a scan of Malwarebytes

Burn to CD a free bootable AV rescue disk, boot to run a full scan: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List You may need to run it twice, and you may need to run more than one. Use one which will allow you to copy out your files afterward to quarantine.

As soon as you can get into Safe Mode, install, update and run Full Scan with Malwarebytes. Run it now on your Win7 computer and USB device.

If XP won't start after cleaning, boot XP CD to run a Repair Install: Repair Windows XP - How To Perform a Repair Installation of Windows XP - Part 1 of 2

I already have malware bytes on my windows 7 computer. I will try that kapersky one though.

That boot cd will not work!!
I start a scan, I have worked out that it scans at a speed of 100MB/min, It takes 40 minutes to do one scan and then I reboot.
That pesky blue screen comes up again!!
Oh, please help!:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

You could try one of the other disks on the list and see if you have better results.

AVG usually has good results, or try this one:

Avira AntiVir Rescue System - Download
The Avira AntiVir Rescue System a linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to repair a damaged system, to rescue data or to scan the system for virus infections. Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available.

If none of the boot disks work, then as gregrocker stated, try doing a repair install.

If that fails, you may just want to consider doing a complete reinstall.

I've seen this happen a couple times with my kids. I ended up buying a new hard drive and reinstall Win 7 on the new drive. Buy a hard drive enclosure with USB connection. Run malwarebytes or an anti-virus on your old hard drive. Then copy all your DATA to the new drive.
