Ok so i have a workgroup set up between win7 and vista, both can share files fine.

I have a usb printer HP photosmart C5380 connected to the win7 computer( although the problem is still the same if its connected to the vista machine)

Both 64 and 32bit drivers are installed and theirs no firewall blocking it and all sharing options are ticked.

Im running a TP-Link 108M wireless router which both machines are connected to wirelessly.

The vista machine can see the printer on the network yet when i go to print it just says error do u want to troubleshoot.

I have the printer model before this, it would not work until I installed the entire 700 meg print package.

If you only installed the driver, welcome to owning a hp printer, they rarely work with just the drivers installed.

the whole package is installed on the win7 computer, well from the cd that came with it, and its had regular updates. The printer does work just not on the network?

Install the printer on the Vista machine and print a test page to verify that it works on the Vista machine. Then connect the printer back to the Windows 7 machine, make sure it is properly shared and that you know the shared name. Now go back to the vista machine and open up, Control Panel, Hardware and Sounds, and printers. Right Click the printer icon that was created when you had the printer connected locally, goto properties, click port, and then click on add port. Click on new local port and when prompted for a name for the port, use the proper UNC name to the printer: \\win7computername\sharednameofprinter Another example would be if your Win 7 Machine name is upstairs and the share name of the printer is color, then the proper syntax would be: \\upstairs\color
You should now be printing to the printer from your Vista machine while it is connected to your windows 7 machine. Hope this helps...

From the Vista machine, can you browse to the shared printer? If so, try double clicking the printer to see if it installs on the Vista machine. I would turn off the firewalls on both machines just to see if it works. ONce it works, then turn on the firewalls one at a time until it stops.

Is the user name (logged in user) the same as the Windows 7 Machine? If not, you will need to give the Vista user rights to the Windows 7 Shares. Sometimes these problems are hard to trouble-shoot from so far away...argh.

I suppose you could cheat and buy a new wireless printer...LOL!

both computers are set on a workgroup so they can share files, but no luck with the printer.

Its annoying coz its there but u just cant print lol, ive tried all different installation methods from installing from the disk to installing just with the drivers.

That is ridiculous.
All the same I'm glad you're sorted. I never would have thought it a permissions issue.

At least we all know next time eh?
