Win7 SP1 released to public

I also got this one KB2387530. Recommended.

Mike

This one failed on my system, and it is not on offer any more. Funny. The error code was error 0x80242016, which, when 'translated', means

WU_E_UH_POSTREBOOTUNEXPECTEDSTATE=The state of the update after its post-reboot operation has completed is unexpected

which, according to me being unable to install it separately afterwards means it was not supposed to update a post-SP1 system. Some scheduling errors, perhaps, in Microsoft updates central dispatch? :D

Just installed SP1 via automatic updates & it seems to have hung during the shut down process after configuring the updates.
Is it supposed to be stuck there for more than 10mins?

No, not really. Try restarting the system and see what happens. If it still hangs try the update again.

Let us know.

I installed all three of the little updates before SP1.

You may not need it after SP1. It may have included it in the service pack or just may not be needed now.

If it shows as an update later you can try it again then.
I wouldn't worry about it for now.

^ that is only the SP1 update. In their words "This DVD image contains standalone update for all architectures."

What we want is the slipstreamed Windows 7.:)

Have you seen this - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ows-7-sp1-into-installation-dvd-iso-file.html. It's not the slipstreamed version itself.... but you can make your own ;)

Yes, I was referring to the actual windows 7 installation disk with SP1 integrated into it. Just about everyone can get SP1, but you can't get an actual Microsoft Windows 7 ISO unless you have a TechNet or MSDN subscription. I don't need another product code all I want is the Windows 7 + SP1 install media. I've got it but it wasn't easy finding it and downloading it.
This isn't meant to be a criticism of the tutorial posted above. But if I went that route and had problems latter on down the road, I'd always be wondering if it was the slipstream (RT Seven Lite) that caused it. I'd likely then go back to installing SP1 separately. I'd just rather get the Microsoft created version if I could.

It's (KB2387530) not included in the update - according to the release notes found here - Download details: Documentation for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) - second link (it's in excel format)

Understand, and actually ran into "problems" when upgrading from SP1 to SP2 in Vista because SP2 didn't like the vLite'd slipstreamed version of Vista with SP1. And again, no criticism as well, just something users did experience. I posted about that one here - Vista SP2 is out - Vista Forums

Anyways let's hope for better outcomes when/if the need arises as its way too early to foresee any problems with the fix Brink presents now :)

The only thing I can't figure out is the logic of featuring this update, which dates from December 8, according to the KB article, on the very same day when SP1 appears and updates a myriad of files to versions newer than this.

Microsoft clumsiness™.

Not really. Microsoft continously updates the OS, this is just something that didn't make it into the SP. It happens; won't be the last.

Just installed it a few minutes ago and glad to report, the PC is now much faster system-wide. Internet Browsing, and general Windows Explorer usage has improved for me. Unfortunately, my boot-time suffered by a few extra seconds, but once Windows is loaded, it is nice and nippy.

You're not thinking clearly. :D This update will never make it, it updates files to versions lower than SP1 versions, it has been rendered obsolete on the very same day they promoted it to feature in WU. :D

Installation was a breeze over here too, thank God.

However, I find it hilarious that it takes ONE HOUR to download over a 35mbps connection, and yet only ten minutes to actually configure, install and then boot up. Honestly, I think Microsoft needs some better WU servers STAT! :sarc:

Installation was a breeze over here too, thank God.

However, I find it hilarious that it takes ONE HOUR to download over a 35mbps connection, and yet only ten minutes to actually configure, install and then boot up. Honestly, I think Microsoft needs some better WU servers STAT! :sarc:

To be fair, they probably had a lot of traffic. Also, it probably verified the file was intact as it downloaded (so it could be their algorithm for transferring the data).

It was slow for me downloading over cable internet.

I know, was just commenting it as funny that a roughly 88MB file took that long over such stellar broadband, to lighten the mood as it were.
