I jave just installed windows 7 professional on my dell optiplex gx280 system and came to know that there is no driver available for the built in graphics card (Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family) that can work with windows 7. Now I am thinking about buyiong a new graphics card. So, please tell me which one would be an optimal compromise between price and performance? I am not going to play heavy games or do any advanced video editing on my PC. I will be only running graphics editing software like adobe photoshop and illustrator and ofcourse, I want to get windows aero interface to work, too.

Or, is there any way to get my current graphics card work in windows seven???

Thanks in advance for giving any advice.

They don't appear to be expensive to me. What is your absolute upper price limit?

I'm afraid you're going to have a lot of trouble finding a better card for any cheaper than the two Youwanvista mentioned. For their price, they are excellent cards. $75 cards are really the "minimum safe zone". Anything that costs less will often be poor, believe me, I found out the hard way - paid €60 for a Radeon HD 4350 and it is pathetic. Don't fall for misleading prices.

These are the cheapest card for the performance you need, anything cheaper will not run any application properly and might cause slowdowns, $75 is really cheap considering that high end cards cost ~$550

I will be only running graphics editing software like adobe photoshop and illustrator and ofcourse
The cards above can run these at an acceptable performance

An opposing view:

If you were content with the onboard graphics under XP, then any add-on graphics card that can support Aero Glass effects will be an improvement. It might be "pathetic" for gaming, but that's not a primary concern for you.

Which type of GX280 do you have? Some of the smaller form factor will probably limit you to a low profile (half height) card. That may limit your choices, although I believe that you can get nVidia 430GT or Radeon HD 5570 cards in that format. You may also be limited by your power supply, if you have a SFF GX280.

ok ... thaks to all for the sincere suggestions. I know that the graphics cards mentioned by yowanvista are not very expensive when thinking in terms of using them with latest and highend PC's but the market value of my current system is no more than $100 :) so it doesn't make sense to insert a $70 worth grphics card in it. I was able to find a nVidia GeForce 9300 in my local market of used computer parts for about $25 which is working fine for me. Windows Aero interface is working properly and also I can play some medium level games like Need for Speed undercover without any hassel. It is sufficient for me I think .....
