Firefox 4.0 RC out

so if this RC is the only one and is going to be the RTW build, will i be able to upgrade from the RC to the RTW when its released? :sarc:

I was using FF 4.0 Beta 12 and was able to upgrade to FF 4.0 by going to "Help" ------------ "About Firefox"

These are the steps that I took

1. Downloaded the FF 4.0 installer file
2. Used MozBackup and backed up Firefox
3. Backed up the FF ReminderFox addon
4. Downloaded and installed the FF update from the "Help" menu
5. Made sure everything was okay
6. Uninstalled FF 4.0 using Revo Uninstaller set to "Moderate" which is the default.
7. Cleaned files and the Registry
8. Installed FF 4.0 using the installer file downloaded in step #1.

I took those steps above in order

1. To test FF 4.0 before doing a clean install
2. Doing a clean install of FF 4.0.

When I update any software from a Beta version to a general release (RTW) I always do a clean install of the general release.:D

After I did the update from Beta 12 through the FF menu I installed it cleaned by files and regsitry

I'm running the RC plus Minefield x64 and they are both doing fine. I notice no real difference in speed between them although Minefield seems to have a smoother feel somehow.

Remind me, will this be released for 64-bit systems? If not, I'll probably just stick to Minefield x64 until Firefox 5.0 (or whatever number the next version is).

I asked the same question. We will have to use Minefield until Firefox 5.0 if you want 64 bit.

Firefox/Roadmap

Product Priorities for 2011

Our product priorities for 2011 are determined by our overall organizational context and the vision we're trying to achieve. They represent our understanding of what's required in order to produce a web browser that will be both successful in the market and representative of our vision of the web.

  1. Ship our new technology to users in smaller bundles, more frequently
    1. Four technology shipment vehicles in 2011, including Firefox 4
    2. Achieve a regular cadence for shipping
  2. Develop a product that is responsive from "click to render"
    1. No more than 50ms delay between user action and application reaction
    2. Provide optimizations to hide network latency
    3. Obtain metrics from users in addition to our test infrastructure
  3. Expand the Open Web Platform to include Apps, Social and Identity
    1. Design and implement open systems for Identity and social interactions
    2. Design and implement Web Application Framework
    3. Implement missing pieces of CSS/HTML required for compelling Web Applications
  4. Never lose the user's data or state
    1. Continue to improve stability
    2. Mitigate the cost of application failure
    3. Interact with cloud-based storage to allow users to "take it with them"
  5. Shine the primary UI until it gleams
    1. Determine and optimize top 5-10 user interaction flows (ie: search for restaurant)
    2. Improve tools for customization/restoration of old functionality so we can remove it from primary UI
    3. Improve user interface polish so that Firefox feels modern, graceful and elegant
  6. Support modern operating systems and platforms
    1. support Firefox Windows 64-bit builds
    2. OSX 10.7 system integration
    3. Android 3.0 tablet integration
    4. ensure JIT performs well on modern ARM CPU families
  7. Plan for a future where Desktop, Mobile and Web Apps run on a common platform
    1. Need to design and architect towards this eventual outcome
    2. Implementation of this is not a priority
Firefox 5

Took a little customization to get it to look like I wanted but 4.0 is growing on me. Been a loyal FF use for a long time now and I can definitely say this is an improvement speed wise.

Just took the plunge into FF 4 RC1 and it was a breeze. All my add-ons and customizations including Extentions, appearance, and plugins are there and functional. It appears to have over-layed the 3.6.15 without a glitch...Good job Mozilla, this is why I like this product...great developers and outstanding product quality.

Easiest FF upgrade ever. Hope the final is as easy.

Curious thing; I installed the RC and set it up, speed dial etc. I then installed the latest x64 Minefield version. This is 4.0b13pre.
After the install I had both x86 FF and x64 Minefield installed. They both opened and operated separately.
The only noticeable difference was that FF had Firefox written on the menu tab top left and Minefield had Minefield.
Today, when I open FF I get Minefield. I now just have two different logos on the task bar that both open Minefield, the traditional FF logo and the Minefield blue/black Earth bomb logo.
Not sure how this has happened. It's not a problem as I prefer Minefield but it's interesting that it should have "disappeared" 32 bit FF.

Well I just Google'd "Firefox 4 RC blurry" and it does seem that some other people are having this issue too. However, I am not. The installer upgraded my FF install from 3.6.15 to 4.0 RC.

There are some posts on Google which reference "Direct2D" as being in use for the text. Also there is the obvious term hardware, therefore your computer abilities or lack there of may be an issue? Perhaps you might want to run the DirectX updater too? I did that on (this) recent install of Window's 7 and it found a ton of "Direct NAMEHERE" updates for update/installation. it may help, or may not, but it doesn't hurt to be up to date.
