There's an example of how differing opinions can be. I was thrilled to death that the stupid click sound was gone. That got real annoying, real quick, especially on pages that auto-refresh. I know when I'm clicking a link...don't need a sound to tell me.

You apparently miss the feature for some reason, but the user has an option to set it either way.

The restart caught me by surprise, especially since it didn't 'fully' restart.

(No, I never used the RC)

The rendering engine for IE is used to display content for Explorer and the help system as possibly several other internal systems. Did you notice that the IE install completely shut down your desktop during install? :)

So yes, a restart is required to completely replace the old html renderer with the new one since parts of it are base OS components.

Mine didn't. IE9 just installed for me while I was messing around on the desktop, then it just asked me to restart my PC

Which I was quite annoyed about because I was wanting to startup a virtual machine I had just created :p

IE9 32-bit is noticeably faster than Chrome 10, my preferred browser of choice (although I would have no complaints using IE 7/8/9 on a daily basis). But, interestingly, IE9 64-bit is noticeably slower. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...wsing-internet-windows-explorer-turn-off.html

I saw an article yesterday but don't remember the link where MS stated that IE9-64bit uses a different engine and is slower. The author indicated that a 64bit browser was not a MS priority and they put their effort into the 32bit version.

I'm not sure everybody realizes this but the 32 bit version of IE is the default, even on the 64 bit version of windows 7. Just because your using a 64 bit OS doesn't mean your using the 64 bit version of IE. Installing the 64 bit version of IE 9 also installs the 32 bit version. You have to go to the start menu, all programs and look for the "Internet Explorer (64 bit)" Icon to launch it. I use 64 bit from time to time, but every thing that launches IE in windows 7 launches IE 32 bit so I end up in that version 95+% of the time. 32 bit seems plenty fast to me, haven't used the 64 bit version (of this release) enough yet to pass judgment, only installed it this morning.

IE, at least parts of it are depended upon by some Window's features / programs. So it would make sense that it needed to reboot to complete the install. Other browsers like Opera are standalone and don't hook into the system etc.

Did you notice that the IE install completely shut down your desktop during install? :)
It was no biggie - I was just curious at the time why some were having to completely restart the system while others like myself, did not.

Curiosity satisfied now :)

Just got home, couldn't wait up til midnight EDT, 9pm PDT, to get the RTW version of IE9. Just loaded it on my 64-bit machine and if flies.

Liked what I saw in the Beta and Release Candidate, right now it looks like it made me a believer, going to put Chrome aside for awhile.

I don't notice any difference from the RC, I like it, but two sites I visit don't display properly, and they didn't fix the slow speed of gifs.

exactly the websites not all but some are loading slowly and sometimes not at all :(
and for me i did notice a diffrience between the RC and the FINAL version, well the RC was faster and did not use much RAM-CPU while FINAL version use alot of CPU-RAM and it's a bit slower.

Seems slower than Chrome or Opera loading sites and the text looks blurry & the scrolling is jerky.
Hard to see why they took so long to come up with this.

wow...the x64 versions is indeed slower and has problems with adobe flash. The x86 version is better. Works faster than RC and is quite stable. Posting this while using IE 9 x86.

If you downloaded the x64 and installed it, it also means that you installed also x86 version unconsiously. Use the 32 bit ( x86). You'll love it.

P.S. watch your RAM....it requires a little bit than the usual.

No having that issue here...

May be an idea for you to start a new thread in Browsers & Mail - Windows 7 Forums and see if anyone can offer dedicated assistance.
