Hey guys,
I have been trying to install these windows updates
KB2388210
KB976098
KB976932 (SP1)

however these errors appear when trying to install them 800B0100, 80070002, 80070BC9. I have tried to do the things windows recommended to me.

I have Windows Ultimate x64 and have already tried doing the System Readiness Tool and have attached the log.

I have already tried to install these manually from the Microsoft website but they failed.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. So what exactly are you going to do (or me).
And when will this custom fix be ready. No rush though ;)

Is there any more information you need from my system?

Thanks
Alex

Hello Alex!

Thank you so much for your patience! It is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, there has been a slight setback.

So what exactly are you going to do (or me).

You shall find out soon :) It wouldn't have been too hard.

And when will this custom fix be ready. No rush though ;)

Again, thanks for your patience. I have tried to do it now...but I have struggled to find a replacement for on your your corrupt files, a rare one.

Is there any more information you need from my system?

All I normally need to know is OS and Bit Version. I know you are using x64 Windows 7, and that is enough :)

Here is a list of files which need to be replaced:

Code:

I have found a good replacement for all but one:

Code:
    winsxs\manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-b..erballot-runonce-01_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.20651_none_3c3af682266552d1.manifest

I need an extra night to try to source this file.

I may also need to take another file off your computer to aid me in finding a replacement.

However, give me one day, and if I still have not sourced it, I shall grab that file :) I am usually pretty good :) The problem is that file is quite large, and a bit unwieldy.

I am a very busy student, but I shall be as quick as possible. I am uploading all of those other files before I lose them, and so that I can add to them at my place of work. There is no need to do anything with them yet. Just ignore them, but know that I am making every effort.

Thanks again, Alex!

Richard

Hello again, Alex!

Merlin's back! lol.

Sorry, I couldn't trace it. I need to take a very small portion of your registry to find out. This part is just a small part which you have probably never seen before, and doesn't contain any identifiable data (as far as I know). The only thing it will tell me is what updates are installed on your machine, hence which language packs you have installed. But I am not interested, and won't waste time finding out!

Right, please do the following:

Elevated Command Prompt

Now paste in (must use Right Click > Paste, Ctrl-V does NOT work in Command Prompt) the following, one at a time, pressing enter after each one.

dir C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages /s > %UserProfile%\Desktop\log1.txt

dir C:\Windows\WinSxS /s > %UserProfile%\Desktop\log2.txt

Download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Run it, and make a backup.

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop.

Highlight all three files (log1.txt, log2.txt, COMPONENTS) and right click on one of them > Send to > Compressed (zipped) archive.

Now upload this zip file to RAPID SHARE, or any other similar file sharing website.

Once you have done this, copy the link, and send me that link so that I can download it. Please make sure to set the permissions to public, so that I can access it!

Thanks again!

Richard

P.S. I am sorry that it came to this. It won't be long before I can avoid this, for I am developing a whole range of tools for both my end and your end, which already automate much of the process. Already I do very little. All extraction of updates, much of the repetition in log files, the analysis of that registry hive is already automated at my end. But all of these tools are still in beta - a safe beta, they only ever have read permissions to the registry, and not write, but the word beta makes some think "Danger!". lol.

Hey
I did the registry backup but there wasn't a components file in the backup folder.
I did however get the log files.

Hello again, Alex!

Really, really excellent work! Sorry that RegBak didn't work. Well done on ERUNT. All files received intact, and required information extracted. Manifest traced, and replacement found!

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

Thanks!

Richard

Hello again!

Progress! I am slightly confused as to why CheckSUR did not find the manifests. The .cat and .mum files are now all fixed, but the corrupt manifests remain. I am also not that surprised that it is that KB which is still causing problems, as it is that KB which is the source of those missing manifests.

What we shall do is attempt to fix those manifests one more time. If that fails, we shall uninstall that update, and reinstall it (not the normal way - it is corrupt - I shall provide you with files extracted from the installer, and a batch file)

Please download the new Packs.zip (really a version of the old one) and extract every file in it into:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\WinSxS\Manifests

Then re-run SURT. There is also one manifest not from that KB. I shall fix that also, at the same time.

The reason we are re-running SURT is mainly to fix that manifest. Since we need to re-run that time consuming tool, we may as well try to fix KB2425227.

Richard

EDIT: And a new CheckSUR.log please :)

Hello Alex!

Has KB2425227 installed successfully now?

Right, last corruption! Please download the attached zip file, and extract it to somewhere, maybe a folder on your Desktop. Run UninstallKB976002x64.bat.

Do not run Vicious Uninstall.bat without talking to me first please :)

Thanks!

That is the biggest bit of BS I have ever seen. KB976002 is Browser Choice, and is hardly essential. You can read about it here: What is the Browser Choice update? (KB976002) - Microsoft Windows

Since everything else has now gone through alright, and I think that since this thread is dragging on, we will try to install Browser Choice, and then if it doesn't work, we will leave it. If it ever causes a problem, you can come back to this thread.

Please download the attached .zip file, and install (double click on, OK) the contained .msu.

Thanks!

Richard
