Solved No battery meter showing with UPS installed

For the benefit of any others who stumble across this thread while wrestling with UPS issues of their own: an APC tech provided a link to a kbase article that fixed my problem:

Missing native shutdown battery options in windows 7 and Vista

I updated the driver, and now have a 'HID UPS Battery' listed under batteries in Device Manager, rather than an 'APC UPS' battery. The battery meter icon now appears in the system tray. Problem solved!

So that link only is useful for those who aren't running PowerChute. I think I'll stick to using PowerChute, and in addition to this, I actual prefer not to see a battery icon all the time. I only want to see a battery icon if I'm running on battery, just as a laptop works.

However I just now discovered that eveytime Windows restarts I have to give permission to allow Power Chute 3 to run. Never had to happen with Power Chute 2. I need to get that fixed or I'll just go back to 2.2.

Here is what APC has to say. Not a pretty fix.

User Account Control requires permission before APCSYSTRAY.exe will start upon login after installing PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0

I guess that makes you special in picking something that will never ever have problems. Are you using Windows 7 btw???
