I've already copied out all my documents, Microsoft Office, and other program files that seemed vital (like HP files that come with the computer)

Anything else you think I need/should copy out?

this laptop is less than a year old and it is my personal computer and i don't use it for a whole lot besides Microsoft Office and internet.

Also, why does Parted Magic not seem to say anything about the disk being Dynamic? it says it's a functional NTFS drive.

You can back up C:Windows/System32/Drivers and /driverstore to have all of your installed drivers on hand if any are missing in Device Manager after install.

I don't use Parted Magic so can't answer. We tend to trust PW Boot Disk, even when Disk Mgmt or PW Home Edition show different outputs. But from all you've posted, there's no doubt it's Dynamic.

Sorry we couldn't pull a trick out of the bag to do this an easier way. But this can be seen as an opportunity to get a perfect install, then with a Win7 backup image you never have to reinstall again.

Here are tips to get a perfect reinstall, based on hundreds done here: Reinstalling Windows 7 - use the ones which apply.

ok thanks, I'll guess I'll just have to do a completely clean reinstall. not such a big deal as long as i can get windows back haha

you can try to recover the partition with the Partition Recovery Wizard as stated.
If you are comfortable using a Hex editor then changing a couple of entries in the MBR partition table (partition types) can return the disk to Basic. see Method 1 here
