Hey guys, i've been trying a couple of anti virus internet security trials that are accessible a with Jaws 12 screen reader. I've tried Avast internet security and Avg internet security, I like the Avast internet security since it's a lot more accessible and i've noticed that it runs lighter than Avg, but i'm not too sure how good it is. I'm not sure if any of you can help me out since their isn't many demand on this kind of stuff. I do have Malwarebytes since i've heard it works well and well it's free and i have the windows firewall, i'm not to sure if i should keep that one or get another one.... I do understand that it just takes some common sense,but i'd rather be safer than sorry. feedback would greatly be appreciated thanks

Purely from safety, and stability (no BSOD's) I would recommend Microsoft Security essentials and the win 7 firewall. They rarely cause BSOD's are free, and work well.

Hi, SubbinBlazer. Welcome to Seven Forums!

Since Jaws 12 Screen Reader is compatible with Microsoft Office, Messenger and Internet Explorer, I would expect that it would work well with Microsoft Security Essentials.

There is still a dearth of applications for blind or sight impaired people. This is not likely to change soon, because, as you rightly say, the demand is low. The Windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials, coupled with Malwarebytes, and SuperAntiSpyware;

SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

Should address most of your needs.

JAWS supports standard Windows applications and other popular applications with little or no customisation ... Windows 7 support is only available with JAWS 11.0.734 or higher.

Ok, so is the free edition good enough or is it worth purchasing the paid version of SuperAntiSpyware?

This is really a matter of personal preference and what the user is looking for. I use the free version as an on-demand scanner. It can be updated on an as-needed basis. I rely on my primary Microsoft Security Essentials for all the real time applications. You may want the paid version of Superantispyware based on your own computer habits. Here's a comparison chart that may let you make a more informed decision.

SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware. AntiSpyware. AntiMalware.

Slightly off-topic. One of the mysteries of Security Essentials is how often it updates its data base. It seems that if you let Windows Updates do things automatically, you might get those updates only once every 24 hours. I seem to recall some folks saying it might be once every 48 hours. I know for a fact that MS releases updates at least twice a day (once in the early morning and again later in the afternoon or early evening based on my time zone.) So rather than wait for automatic updates I'd suggest doing a manual update once in the AM and once in the PM to make sure you have the latest and greatest.

I've been using MSE since version 1 and I'm pleased with it. Version 2 has been improved quite a bit. It doesn't bog things down and it's fairly light on resources. Like everything else a lot depends on individual internet habits, the sites one visits, and using common sense when faced with unexpected email attachments, responding to phishing attempts, etc.
