I just received a brand new Lenovo 405, I did fire it and went through the first time routine and as it was late, shut it down.
Today, several days later, I was to install my software and on the very first screen it ask me the password. I have no recollection of setting a password, so I am out of luck.
I did call Lenovo, and they said as it is not a Lenovo Issue, I should contact Microsoft. I did, after eons finally got a human and was tols that they cannot help me because it is against the law.

Is there a way to change the password, so I can use the machine?
I am a woodworker not a geek please help
Thank you very much
Jorge

Since the computer is new and you haven't installed anything yet, why not just restore it to the factory default configuration?

You either have installation disks or a recovery partition.

When you turn the computer on, what happens if you just press the 'Enter' key when it asks for a password?

The very first screen of what?
Do you see the Windows logo?
Or is this screen you see the first thing that pops up?

I'm thinking it is a BIOS BOOT password. If that is the case, IE you never see the Windows logo screen, then sent it back to where ever you bought it
