Well after going back and forth if i should do a build, a couple 2600k threads here convinced me it was time lol I am hoping to go 4.4-5ghz range :geek:

Just a note, you will notice the low end video card, that was by design, it's just a temp card ;)

Here is what I picked up.

Nice one meth , should be a sweet system!

Best of luck with the build.

Is it wise going with the auto over clock function on the board? Is there an o/c for dummies somewhere lol

It's always preferable to manually adjust key settings (especially anything to do with voltages) when overclocking.

The less Auto, the better.

They are so easy to clock its untrue.

I think you can get upto 4.2 with everything on auto and setting the multiplier to 42.

When you start to go into the higher clocks then its best to set everything yourself like the voltage.

I still don't know what a safe voltage is on these chips for a 24/7 clock so I have mine running at 4.6ghz with a 1.36vcore. Which has been rock stable.

I took it up to 4.9ghz for a short while but it needed over 1.4vcore and until I find out if thats safe I am more than happy with 4.6.

If you run into any issues getting to 4.5ish then give us a shout and I will have a look through my bios to see exactly what I have it set at and what I disabled etc.

I appreciate the help guys, hopefully you don't hear me crying to much today ;)

I have been reading around all day today just to get as much info as possible prior to building. So far I got this, hopefully I am not misinformed as of yet.

I will be tinkering with the turbo multiplier
I would need to stay below 1.4v vcore (lower the better obviously)

Will i be messing with

I didn't need to mess with any of the things you have listed , it appears mine overclocks so easy its not needed.

From what I can remember I just disabled a few things like the power saving modes , changed the multiplier and vcore and that was it .

Obviously you want coretemp and cpuz installed to monitor your clocks.

Here are a few links posted by Dave76 from another thread on how to OC a 2600K processor to manually OC as smarteyeball has suggested in a previous post.

Disclaimer: I personally do not know how to OC or have OC'd a processor and cannot personally endorse the validity of the posted links

Someone with OC experience could offer validity of the posted links.

It looks fine to me.

As I can see from the screen shot the processor is not under full load , the voltage will be on auto in the bios at the moment so it will go up and down when needed.

This is a very useful guide , I know its a standard bios as apposed to the efi we have but it gives some good information regarding what to disable and guidelines for voltages at different speeds.

Give it a good read.

The ULTIMATE Sandy Bridge OC Guide + P67A-UD7 Performance Review - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

Please do yourself a favor before doing any overclocking and go through the links provided by Dave76 and paulpicks21.... otherwise that shiny new system will become a brick. Read, read, and read!!!

And for crying out loud, DO NOT DO the software overclock before reading!!! This way you at least get an idea of what's getting overclocked. And bear in mind that software overclocks are just general settings that tend to overvolt stuff - overvolt = overheat = premature failure.

On the flipside overclocking is pushing the components past their intended usage which does generate heat and can lead to an early death. We all want to hit 4/5 gig.... can your system stand the heat?

The key is finding a balance between performance and heat - that's overclocking done right.

My two cents.

Sygnus21 when I posted those links provided by Dave76 they were intended only as reference material for the OP meth68 and others interested in OC'ing or ready to start OC'ing.

I added the disclaimer and asked for verification so others like yourself and smarteyeball could further advise those interested in doing so safely. IE: Agreed $2300.00 worth of hardware can go up in smoke in nano-seconds.

Yeah I got that, and my advice would be for those to actually read the material you referenced. I see too many people overclocking systems without understanding what's going on. As I'm fond of saying: It's one thing to hit 4/5gig, it's another to run stable at that speed.

When I see posts with images of CPU-Z and Core Temp/Real Temp showing no load on the processor my natural question(s) is did you stress the system? What's the load temps? Again, it's one thing to hit 4gig; it’s another to run stable.

I can hit 4.2gig, but I can't run it stable. That's why I stay at 3.8GHz..... because the processor is stable, my memory is at peak performance, and the heat is manageable for my setup.

Read up on overclocking, gain an understanding, and find your happy medium - Processors can't run those extended high speeds without voltage tweaks, which in turn generates heat - hench the balance between performance and heat.

My two cents.

Well I finally started to mess around with my build, just to get the fell of this I went the easy route and went 48x on each core and set my cv to 1.35. Temps seem to stay in the 65-75c range running prime

, but after a bit them seem to settle down which i found to be odd. Like I kept prime running after the following screenshot and 20min later my readings are as follows..

@100% 67c
@100% 65c
@100% 75c
@100% 72c

I think thats a little high going by the amount of cooling, I may go down to 45x and lower the cv

I went and lowered to [email protected] (cpu-z reports 4500mhz/1.280v) all of my temps are in the 60's now 63/67/69/66 I've only been running prime for about 10min or so. I was planning on running longer stability tests tonight, but I was wondering is high 60's dangerous? I was hoping to stay in the cool zone, but to be honest I am unsure whats good/bad/ugly with these 2600k's :o

As a rule most people I have seen talking about temps say that anything below 75 as a max is ok.

I prefer temps a bit lower myself , I did notice that about a week after my build my temps dropped by around 8 degrees which I would imagine is due to the thermal paste curing/bedding in.

If I run prime95 for 30 mins now the max I hit is 62 degrees.

Just be careful and monitor your temps closely over the next few days.
