Hello

I get error code WindowsUpdate_80070011
I have tried to search but haven't found anything good.

When I'm installing IE9 I get WindowsUpdate_00000011
Same here haven't found anything that is helping out

My system
Win7 Home Premium ED
Moved C:\user to d:\user
Moved C:\program files(x86) to d:\program files(x86)
Created junctions on c:\ pointing to d:\ folders

Other updates works great.

Hi,

I've read that turning your Antivirus & Firewall off can possibly solve this issue. Be sure to turn them back on when finished and don't start browsing until they're back on..

Also, make sure that you've made all appropriate changes in the registry to point to the new folder locations

Hello!

First let me show you how your error code maps:

Code:
C:\Users\Richard>err 80070011
# as an HRESULT: Severity: SUCCESS (0), Facility: 0x4c5, Code 0xc57b
# as an HRESULT: Severity: FAILURE (1), Facility: 0x7, Code 0x11
# for hex 0x11 / decimal 17 :

  ERROR_NOT_SAME_DEVICE winerror.h
# The system cannot move the file to a different disk drive.

# 31 matches found for "80070011"

C:\Users\Richard>

As you can see here: Microsoft does not support changing the location of the Program Files folder by modifying the ProgramFilesDir registry value

Moved C:\program files(x86) to d:\program files(x86)

That move is not supported, and is the only thing causing this error.

The only fix is the temporarily move C:\program files(x86) back.

BTW, did you just use a junction, or the registry as well?

Richard

Richard

I just used a junction as I have tested changing registry before and it didn't work that well. To force programs to default install on another drive.

I'm using MS Security essentials and the installation of IE9 turns it off when installing.

I have 11GB left on the c: drive and the "new" program files folder are 29GB

As I don't really use IE (use chrome) I don't mind just ignoring the updates but I'm stuck in a loop. Systems tries to update the system on shutdown and fails.
