It seems to me that I have a lot less updates now that I am using windows 7 premium 64 bit... I never had windows vista... I used xp pretty much right up until Jan 2011... it seems to me like the version of windows I am using now (7 premium 64 bit has way less updates than xp professional had... does anyone know if this is true that this version of windows has needed less updates?

You get what you are entitled to - usually on patch Tuesday. Since January I got about 30 and then another 20 for Office. And a couple for Silverlight and .net.

Computer Manufacturer/Model Number
HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops
5 Updates for Office 2007
24 updates for Office XP Pro
2 Updates for .NET
1 update for Silverlight
32 updates for Windows 7
That's 64 total so far and includes SP1.
Overall I think Windows 7 has less vulnerabilities than XP had so there should be less activity.
Right now, when I install XP Pro with SP3 (slipstreamed) I then download and install about 100 updates. When you go from XP RTM to today, there are several hundred total updates. The info is available if someone wants to dig it out but I'm not that interested.
