I've tried alot of drivers for my sound card but none of them worked for me.
the links are outdated on that PCI website and i've been trying to fix this shit for 2weeks. :( I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit on HP a6030n and my sound card is ALC 888
Here is my id info for my audio card so if somebody could help me find the right driver that would be great.

Did you remember to install the chipset drivers? Most times a lot of other things won't work properly without them. Unfortunately that HP of yours has one of the old Nforce 4 based chipsets on it,

Motherboard Specifications, MCP61PM-HM (Nettle) HP Pavilion a6030n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

that there is limited to no support for in Windows 7 because Nvidia dropped support for it shortly after Vista came out (bet you also have a coprocessor with a yellow triangle showing in Device Manager as well). There is however a Vista chipset driver,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.49 WHQL

that should work. It may take compatibility mode to get it to install,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

Get the chipset driver installed and the audio driver should then install.

One good reason for the driver failing, there is nothing showing at all for "Sound, video, and game controllers" to the point that the entire category is missing. Might want to have a quick look in the bios and make sure that the onboard audio is enabled.

P.S. You can use it if you want but the driver yowanvista is somewhere around 2 years old and has been updated numerous times since then.

Leave the option set to Auto. Download the current driver from Realtek - see: http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/3756-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version.html and follow the instructions here: Device Manager - Install Driver - Vista Forums to install the driver. I recommend that you download the zipped version of the driver, extract it and then then browse to the extracted files in Step 10 of the above Tutorial.

yesss but to do that, i need the sound, video, game controller tab in my device manager. it's missing!

Any unknown devices showing in Device Manager?

The "high definition audio controller" showing under System Devices is the generic Microsoft driver, and gets installed on all systems regardless of what sound card is used.

i expanded all columns and there was no unknown device. say about a week ago, i was trying to fix it on my own, and i read it somewhere to uninstall the stuff in sound, video, game controllers column. so i uninstalled it, and deleted the driver too. they were 'Bluetooth Audio', and 'Bluetooth High Quality Audio'.

Try this!!

I've had this problem before and found this cool little program on another forum...
It's called 3DP chip, it identifies your chipset and hardware and gives you a direct link to the url for download of the proper driver..
:: 3DP Chip :: 3DP Software (3DP Chip / Net / Bench)
Hope that helps!

Unless you added something that uses bluetooth for audio, I think it is safe to say that what you deleted was being mis-identified as I don't see anything in the specs for your computer,

HP Pavilion a6030n Desktop PC Product Specifications HP Pavilion a6030n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Let's try something different to see if it has ever been shown in Device Manager. Set Device Manager to show hidden and ghost devices,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/77614-device-manager-hidden-devices.html

an hopefully it will show something to do with the onboard sound.

P.S. One quick question. Are you still using the onboard video or have you added a video card? If you have added a video card, what is the make and model?

Ok, i made it so that it shows hidden devices.
the 3 new things that i'm seeing is,
-Storage Volume Shadow Copies
-Storage Volumes
-Non-Plug and Play Devices

HERES what it looks like when i expand the 3 of them:(in order from top to bottom)

And, no. i believe i am using the onboard video.
