slow performance

Well, now that I got my computer back running, it is slow. It was slow from the start and then I got those problems with it.
But anyway I have windows 7 and use firefox browser and yahoo mail. My computer is slow. When I go to open a mail it has the word "loading" on the page and that stupid little blue thing just goes around and around. That "loading" I didn't have until a few months ago. Is there steps to take to speed this thing up and give it a good cleaning? I am a novice, so take that in mind please. Thanks.

Please fill out your system specs so we know what we are dealing with. Hard to tell when we don't know what you have.

What kind of system do you have? Memory - HDD - OS Etc. Speccy would be a good place to start. Free download.

What "problems" ? What have you tried to do to speed up your machine? Have you used any registry cleaners or system "tweakers" etc.

Specs means specifications. You have already filled in your OS. You access from the user control panel. Look in the left hand margin.

We need to know what CPU and how much RAM in particular.

My computer must be different, I have nothing o the left hand margin. I do know I have 3 GB of ram, but I don't know what CPU

If you are using Win7 just type system information in the start menu search box.

CPU and RAM in particular. We already know your OS if your system spec is correct.

I have an intel core 2.0 duo cpu E7400 @ 2.80 9hz 2795 memory
3 gb of ram. Is this what you need. There is a whole list of stuff, just took a chance on what you needed. Thanks.

type msconfig in the start button search box. go to msconfig. look in the startup tab. tell us what items have a check in the box next to them.

3GBs or RAM seems OK and so would be the CPU.

Your case is a common symptom of conflicting antivirus software. If you have two antivirus software installed at the same time and are both set to start automatically when you open the computer, the startup usually becomes very slow so you might as well remove one of the two antivirus software and just leave one installed and running at once.

Try to clean your junk files that slow down the computer using CCleaner.

You can check your startup items by these steps and tell us what items on the list are checked:1. Open Start Menu
2. Type msconfig on Run and hit ENTER.
3. On the System Configuration utility, select the Startup tab.
4. View the items checked on that list and tell us.

The only fixes I tried were to run the virus programs

I thought I answered this but can't find it so will repeat it. I have avg and malwarebyte checked on the startup

If you have more checked, uncheck everything but those 2 and restart. Does the situation improve?

Ha, this is definitely a result of conflicting antivirus software.Please read my above post and please be advised to have only ONE antivirus program running at once.

Ok, all I have checked is AVG and I unabled malware. I will try this out today and see if it helps. I just hid all Microsoft services and I reopened "services" and they are all back. Why is that? Thanks.

On that statement I said, check "Hide all Microsoft services" checkbox, it was only meant to hide all Microsoft services from that list so you could sort out third party services that were not made by Microsoft some of which maybe the cause of your problem. It wasn't meant to disable the Microsoft services.

That is what I did, Hide all microsoft services, I clicked on OK. When I went back to it all the Microsoft stuff was there again. I did not say disable. Also, how do I know which of what is left can be the cause?
