BTW ... I always do an 'offline' install when I manually update Java.
Instructions Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u24 allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u24-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Did anyone else get a MSE warning about their Jave add-on being a trojan????

I also had the same notifications awhile back as posted here - http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/131437-mse-2-final-released-9.html#post1140943. I cleaned those files out just to be safe and all was good for awhile, even with Java installed - until yesterday.

Is MSE giving false positive on these???

Yes it happened to me too about 2 days ago. I just let it clean this "trojan" and then reinstalled the latast Java version. Obviously a false positive.

Maybe the reason why I'm not getting the Java false positive is because I always download and update my Java client through the offline installer and not the built-in update tool.

I have Malwarebytes installed along with Microsoft Security Essentials, as do a lot of others on this forum. I run MSE everyday and Malwarebytes at least once a week.

It's small, non-intrusive, and in my mind it keeps MSE honest.

I have it installed as well. I used to run a paid version of ESET on my desktop until it expired. I then went to Avira for my protection and saw that it was quite good with detection but had a lot of false positives as well.

After I switched to MSE, i found a good deal of balance between protection of obtrusiveness. I keep Malwarebytes as a backup and peace of mind.

I've installed MBAM few hours ago and so far so good. Seems to be working well with MSE, but looks like IE9 is loading a bit slower(could be my imagination)

As a personal preference, I did disable the network protection from MBAM and MSE because I think that my router's firewall and the Windows firewall are more than enough protection.

Maybe this will help speed things up.

i cannot see an option in the setting of MSE, nor can i find a scheduled task in the task manager

i also have windows update services turned to manual but MSE always auto updates definition at noon

There are check boxes to turn off both updates and scheduled scans.

correct but as soon as you uncheck the scheduled scan option, all the other options (incl. update) are greyed out.

so i believe if i unckeck the update optiom and then uncheck the scheduled scan option, it will have no effect

My question is WHY would you NOT want the latest definitions for your spyware checker with all the viruses out there that are being updated all the time. Better to be safer than sorry.
