Hiya all,

I've got some problems with running Windows 7 (build 7100) to run on my laptop. It installs fine with correct speed (aprox 30mins) but after that nothing will work. Keeps hanging at "Starting Windows" (waited for 40mins). Booting in Safe mode (doesn't matter which one) hangs at "ClassPNP.sys".

Tried everything there is to do, I cannot even start up in DOS. I've read similar problems like this but no solution so I hope someone has a solution for this.

The laptop specs are:

Toshiba Satallite M40-155
Processor: Intel Pentium M 760 2000MHz
Memory: 1GB
Video: ATI Mobility Radeon X600 128MB

Hope someone can help me with this problem.

Thx for the welcome :)

I downloaded the image from the windows site so that should be OK. The installations goes smooth as well.

I did a clean install and I also tried to update it from a clean XP install, same result. It runs through the installations as good as it gets and then keeps hanging on starting windows splash screen.

ClassPnP.sys is a hardware driver. Is your system 32bit or 64? AMd or intel?

My best guess is a bad Image burn!
Try burning it at a very slow speed like x4.
Yea it will take about 20 mins or so to burn but
the end result will be a perfectly burned copy of W7! ;)

Well I could always give that a try but wouldn't it hang at the installation if the image wasn't burned correctly?

/edit

I just chose "Last known good configuration" and now it keeps rebooting

Since your machine only support 32-bit, is your Windows 7 disc a 64-bit disc...??? Coz maybe thats the reason of weird things going on... to check the version of the disc, insert the disc to a working computer, check the size of the DVD, if its >3.0 GB, then its 64-bit; if its <2.6 GB its 32-bit.

No it's a 32bit as well.

About the serials.sys error, at what time in the installation do you have to enter the serials? Cause in the entire installations it doesn't ask for serials. Or is that only asked when windows starts up

Well then the setup doesn't finish.

When it goes for the first time to windows to finish the setup it keeps haning at the windows is starting screen.

With every reboot it keeps there, when I repair it with the dvd it gets to the windows is starting screen and then it just keeps rebooting.

Hello everyone, I just made a new account to post my finding about this problem.

I have been running windows 7 (build 7100) since the release just fine.
Today I booted up my PC to be welcomed by being stuck on the loading screen and a black screen + a white mouse curser when putting in my windows DVD or trying to do a system repair.
After messing around abit with all the different safemodes (they all got stuck on Classpnp.sys) I went into my PC's BIOS. I got a Asus Laptop and my SATA drive was set to "enhanced". I changed it to "compatible" (this is for running windows XP from what I have gathered, since that does not support SATA natively).
With the compatible setting my pc gave me a BSOD immedialty when trying to boot windows, BUT I could get into recovery and windows installation. So I went ahead and formatted my C:\ and reinstalled windows 7 (Build 7100).
My PC seems to work OK now but sometimes it gets stuck on the windows boot screen again.... but I managed to log back into windows a few times now.

So this all has made me think that my problem is hardware related, because its very random at the momemt. I think my HDD might be failing (2 years old), since I also scanned for virusses and could not find anything, registries were ok aswell. Also, when I switch my SATA back to "enhanced", windows will not boot up, another reason I suspect its hardware related.

I hope people with similar problems can get a little help from my post.

PS: I will be buying a new HDD in the next few days and do a clean install and will let everyone here know how that turns out.

Hello,

I am having this issue as well.

I was running the RC for about 4 months with absolutely no issues and then I started getting stuck at the windows screen, this problem got progressively worse until my machine wouldn't boot at all. Whenever I tried to boot in safe mode I would hang at the classpnp.sys file.

I figured this was a good a time as any to get a legit copy of windows and do a reinstall, so I bought and downloaded windows 7 pro 64 bit upgrade.

I did a complete diagnostic on my velociraptor drive by getting the utility from western digital, no problems came up but to be on the safe side I completely 0'd out my drive before doing the fresh windows install.

This all happened around Christmas. Since I backed up all my files to my laptop I have been using that mostly since then but still using my desktop to play games.

All was fine until yesterday when I started noticing some performance issues on start up, followed by hanging at the windows screen. Now my machine again won't even boot up and when I try to start in safe mode I hang at classpnp.sys

It's an intel machine with an nforce 680i SLI motherboard.

When I google this problem there are about 10 results advising people with the same issue to google it (oh the irony) so if there has been a solution it is not easy to find.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Lori
