Often my Win 7x64 os hangs during start up at the "starting windows" screen.
The only way to get out of it is to push the reboot button.
Upon rebooting the system will ask if I wish to run the diagnostic and repair procedure.
I've done this multiple times with no errors being found. The system suggests that I restore the pc to an earlier system restore point. The system always reboots the second time if I select the boot windows normally choice.

I see red error messages in the Windows application logs event viewer, but non associated with the times when I've booted up and experienced this problem.

The pc is about 10 months old and the Win 7 has been installed for about 9 months.

This has been going on for quite awhile (3-6 months) and I've just been tolerating it. But I finally decided to dig into it.

I've attached the Seven Forums.zip file.

No DMP's included in upload please try this method

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Or Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Here are the dump files.

Still no DMP files uploaded.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

I looked under C:\windows and I could not find any folder named Minidmp. I also searched for it with no luck.

It is configured correctly. Am I mis-interpreting? Are you having BSOD's or just hangs?

If just hangs a more appropriate place to look would be in event viewer

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Yes, I think you missed what I wrote in my first post. I'll requote here:

"I see red error messages in the Windows application logs event viewer, but none associated with the times when I've booted up and experienced this problem."

Most of the critical errors that have occurred, happened hours after I've started the pc and had the hung starts.

If I examine the logs for the initial start up (that's where I typical encounter this hung star) I see nothing except informational entries.

Ok, I tried again. I hope the result is better than the first time.

Just to emphasize, I'm having a system hang up when booting, not a BSOD.

Ok thanks for the help. It not a regular event. It happens every once in awhile and I'll keep the clean boot up in mind.
