I always practice safe browsing (updated Firefox w/ NoScript, AdBlock, and sometimes WoT) and safe file sharing practices.

But to err is human and when those practices fail me, I reply on ESET's NOD32. I prefer no pop-ups, reminders, notifications, etc., so it runs in silent mode, never bothers me, updates whenever it wants, and lets me enjoy my gaming without being a drain on processor cycles or memory. I wouldn't use anything less.

VB100 is a great unbiased reference for comparing AV software, through all versions each developer submits for review.

I agree completely. You just might want to try ESET smart security in stead of NOD32. ESS has nod plus a firewall and slightly better antivirus defs updating. It feels identical and the firewall always comes in handy

I have no doubt it's better than the built-in Firewall, most likely with less overhead too. :)

But I use a hardware-based firewall running FreeBSD on one of those Eee Boxes between my PC and my cable modem, so I really don't need one on my PC. I sometimes bypass it while playing with new games until I learn the ports they use.

But for most people, if they're not doing a lot of torrents/p2p stuff, they probably don't need it.

FYI I don't think 4.0.424 is the latest version of NOD32. Should be 4.0.437 I think

64 and 32 bit version are different? /duh

Anyway ESET Anti-Virus v4 4.0.437.0 x86 + Windows UAC and Firewall !!! it feels like heaven ;)
