For the nth time, they keep saying the PC is dead.

Well to be honest within 20 - 30 years you won't see PC's it will just be interfaces. It's very likely the keyboard will be gone as well. You will just have a Holographic console which you will use to interface with the cloud. So, the PC is dead in reality. So what's all the fuss about it for?:zip:

Of course, the average user posts on facebook, steals music and looks a porn, all of which can be done on a high end tablet.

None of which has anything to do with running a business. I can almost understand the ignorance in the first part of those comments, but the rest of it is fear mongering, nothing more (As I type this, CNN is discussing how cell phones cause CANCER! And are carcinogenic! OMG RUN!!!!) Anyway..

I can't imagine business environments where everyone works from a phone or tablet, or any device like that. We're going to see a spike in slim PC form factors first, after that I'm not sure.

I can't imagine editing movies on a tablet/weak small form factor device, imagine how long it could take to edit, say a 3D movie, or even a standard high def movie. Using a 6core 4ghz Cpu as it is, it takes forever, a Gpu helps that along two fold, and this, will "not" be coming to a tablet near you.

So, if they're predicting the death of the PC, ....again, they're predicting the death of PC Gaming, Editing (think youtube), the end of productive business in the western world, audio editing/production, this go's on, and on, and on...

These people have an incredibly limited frame of reference, and it makes me wonder what these people actually do with their time, besides gloating on facebook about their LIKES.

Why on earth would you need a PC if you have a Holographic console directly connected to the internet, where you can access everything including the kitchen sink? There is more to life than a PC!

If you read the article, you will notice that it mentions Desktop PC's are dead, basically a tower, keyboard, mouse, and monitor, not PC in general.
more and more people are going to Laptops and other mobile devices.

I think most here are way too polarized. All the mobile devices likely will be in addition to PCs:
- the user who never used a PC (and wouldn't be able to use one anyway)
- the PC (or Mac) user who gets the mobile device or TV with network IN ADDITION to his desktop.

Many applications that the average Joe (which didn't have a PC anyway) needs to do can be done on the mobile device. but actual applications (remember, the computer was not invented to send penis pictures to you twitter follow-ship, but to do actual calculations...) will require some sort of desktop... even if the mobile device cathes up with power (it won't win the race, since the desktop and its software develops too), the screen size and keyboard and mouse really are essential for productivity work.

Of course, mobile devices will improve, but won't replace the desktop for actual users. they also won't hurt PC sales much, since they are in addition.

Cloud computing is a good progression , but in the long run people will realise that perhaps a pc isnt so bad for storage , I dont think cloud computing will have massive amounts of storage (5TB +) well in a looong time - also I dont think there are plans to put blu ray players in cell phones this century :P

Personally i think blue Ray is outdated anyway. 25 GB on a slow CD size device while i cna have much cheaper and faster flash memory that is easier to handle? It is just a copyright issue and bandwith limitations that justify existence of disks like that.

25 and 50GB flash memory is not cheaper than a BluRay Disc. I think they are down to $1 or less per pressed BD now.
point me to a source of cheap 25-50GB Flash memory. Oh, and I bought Sin City, 2 Disc collectors edition yesterday for $7.99 at Kmart, so $8 is all I want to pay for 50GB of Flash Memory, can you find some?

And you don't need 1080P on phone so no need for storing and playing a BD file or playing a BD on a phone or tablet.

I agree entirely - was a bit of a joke in the phone thing though.

At the end of the day new phone's , tablets , clouds and all that will come out but the PC will always be used , because lets face it a pc has mroe flexibility to it !

The largest majority of the under 27 mass population are sheople and will always lemming towards the shiny new objects dangled in front of them.

They are all ADD and ADHD....

Gotta have it now, don't care about the consequences, someone else will pick up the slack, and gov't will take care of them.

The cloud is good, Android/Iphone is how they interact and converse.
Must announce that they are doing something special when it really is just a mundane show of self importance that actually means nothing at all. Lemmings do as Lemmings see.

this blue ray disk was rewritable in the same speed and convenience as flash and you can re-write it as many times?

So if everything is done on the cloud, what happens if I can't get on the internet?
Guess I'll have to watch TV. Oh wait, I have cable internet, so if that doesn't work my TV doesn't work.
Guess I'll have to go outside. Isn't it dangerous out there?

I'm just saying that if someone (not me) can't get on the internet, what good will the "cloud" be? NONE
