It's become increasingly clear over the last several months that we have
a pretty pressing need to deal with increases in memory usage in
Firefox. Since we released 4 (and before, too), we've seen lots of
reports about Firefox memory usage being higher than in older versions,
and that Firefox memory usage is growing over time.

I never gave much importance to the Firefox memory leaks. Not even when I had to manage a machine with 512Mb. Anyway, this problem has always been much ballyhooed ... If it is to improve further, welcome!

I think Firefox users have to take part of the blame for any bloating, mem leaks, etc. Loyal users demand more and more from whatever app, browser, or operating system they choose to use. The developers try to accomodate the users by incorporating new "fixes" into the next release. Many times the fixes cause unforeseen issues and those once loyal users begin looking around for something better.

the highest i've seen ff 4 climb to is almost 300mb, and that is only when after leaving it minimized for a long time on the taskbar while i do other things. 3.6.? on the other hand ate memory like it was candy. mozilla even admitted that 3.6.? has major memory use issues.

Useless Flash & JS Proliferation?

I wonder how much of this problem is actually related to the exponential increase, in useless Flash & JS routines incorporated in websites, for no worthwhile reason (at least from my perspective as a user)?

Its about friggin time. I complained to them about this somewhere around Firefox 4.0 Beta <10. I am actually now using 5.0 Beta 3. No problems that I have noticed with 5.0 Beta other than a few incompatible addons which I replaced.

11 tabs open with 20+ Addons

Virtual size - 880 MB
Private Bytes - 480 MB
Working Set - 60 MB

Addon's can consume memory
Firefox plugin-container.exe can consume a lot of memory.

I currently have 57 Processes Running including Firefox and am using about 30% of my 4 GB of RAM on a W7 SP1 x64 computer.
