OCZ Revodrive X2 SSD Review

The OCZ Revodrive X2 isn’t your grandmother’s old hard drive. This thing uses a PCI-e slot with x4 bandwidth mode for extreme speeds in both write and read. OCZ sent over a 240 GB model that can read at up to 740 MB/s, write up to 720 MB/s, and perform up to 120,000 IOPS which are astounding numbers, especially compared to mechanical drives.

Pooch, the Revo drives are 3 drives raided together. So, when you get your 2 revos' are you going to try to raid them together? That would be interesting.

It seems to be coming down to bragging rights now.

Well, if you had a REVO as a source and a REVO as a destination, and you performed a straight up file copy from 1 to the other, you could completely fill the 240GB in just over 5 minutes.

Unless you were using REVO's as storage space, I'm not sure real world day to day usage would really improve substantially. A quick review of YouTube shows approx 14 second bootups...which is about what I get with my Intel X25-M G2 80GB running on SATA 3.0Gbps. It would crush be in benchmarks, and raw file copies...but in launching Windows 7, Office, Chrome/Firefox, TrueCrypt, Paint.NET, or Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD...difference will be negligible at best.

Exactly, day-to-day use it is a waste of hard earned cash. Maybe if the price ever drops to a point where the average everyday user could justify this kind of upgrade it might be worth a second thought but not until then, IMHO anyways.
